It has a huge following among women and gay men.

You just made EB's decision easier.

I don't get it, why would Gay men be interested in
this. Do they love morbidly obese women? Sally
Struthers is so fat you can't recognize her, Melissa
McCarthy is so gigantic that toilets must cringe
when they see her coming. And there's a dance
instructor that is so huge she wears mumus that
are the size of tents in every scene she's in. Why
would Gay men like any of this.

Gilmore girls ran from October 5, 2000 – May 15, 2007 and finished airing on the network, The CW, which began on January 24, 2006.
So it preceded the obligatory introduction of gay characters into every CW series. There is not a single LBTQ character on the show.

The show is known particularly for it's well written dialogue. EB appreciates good writing. So if it has gay fans they are probably appreciate good writing.

The actresses that play mother-daughter are only 14 years apart in age, and the mother character in the show got pregnant at age 16. The actress that plays the daughter had just turned age 19 when the series pilot aired. She and her mother act more like sisters.

Like Buffy the Vampire Slayer the series primary target audience was teenage girls, but quickly broadened to a fanbase well beyond the original focus group.

The writing in the first three episodes stinks. But I
checked the stats and they were written by women,
directed by a woman, and executive produced by
women. As the show went along there were just
as many men involved in the process as women
and I'm assuming the show gets better. Right now
it borders on stupid/brainless. Sally Struthers and
Melissa McCarthy characters border on low-grade
morons in intelligence. Especially Melissa McCarthy,
she's basically a blithering idiot whose name is Snooki
or something equally repulsive. She runs the kitchen
while constantly knocking hot pots and pans off
the stove and setting dish Rags on fire.

The same woman who writes/directs/produces The Marvel Mrs. Maisel: Amy Sherman-Palladino.

Oh my dear God. I made it halfway through the
fourth episode and gave up. And this episode
was written by a man. The most insipid pointless
stupid dialogue I've heard in a long time on a TV
show. Every time the mother opens her mouth
she never stops talking. There was a five-minute
scene between her and Snooki the Whale about
how Snooki's risotto got a good review but not
good enough for Snooki. For 5 minutes they talked
about nothing. Then the mother goes to a meeting
of parents at her daughter's school and makes an
absolute ass out of herself in front of people she's
never met before. She makes herself the center of
attention as soon as she enters the room and keeps
the attention on her for the entire meeting by saying
the stupidest things you can imagine. Please
somebody tell me this show gets better.

There's a really excellent biography of Audrey
Hepburn on Netflix. My favorite movie of hers
is Sabrina. She is so gorgeous in that movie
and so Audrey Hepburn. I had forgotten
she was in the Dutch Underground in World War II.
Everybody loved Audrey Hepburn, nobody ever
had a bad word to say about her.

I really don't know what you're expecting from the show. If I had to list the rank preference for the show's target audience, I'd probably put you at near last just above strict Amish people and non-English speakers. If you read the series overview, then I don't know why you'd ever expect that you would like it.

My then-girlfriend (this would have been 2001-2003, or so) was pretty into it, so I saw a few episodes. I found it occasionally funny and basically inoffensive. I couldn't tell you much in the way of specifics, but I think that my take on it was that it was as bad as anything else on TV, but not worse. Some of the dialogue is pretty snappy. I know they used a lot of pop culture references, so I imagine some of those are going to be dated by now.

I guess I just don't know why you'd expect to like it. You might not be aware of this, but they don't produce every TV series out there with you, personally, in mind.

It has a huge following, so I thought there must be
something to it. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was on at
the same time this show was on and I really enjoyed
it. It was clever and funny and tongue in cheek.
So far Gilmore Girls is just banal and dumb. It's mostly
the mother character, I want to strangle her just to get
her to shut self-centered stupid mouth.
