Found out we had Amazon Prime, friends stopped by and turned us onto Bosch. It's really a good detective series.

Bosch is the best, you have 3 seasons to
watch. Mozart in the City is also a good
series. Prime has better stuff than Nflix
a lot of the time. Prime has Downton
Abby, best show ever on TV.

We just watched episode one of Downton Abby. Hard to even imagine such obscene wealth.

Watch the first season, you'll be hooked. I've
seen the series half a dozen times at least.
The 2nd season is the best one, it involves WW1.

Their wealth is not obscene compared to
the billionaires of today. In fact, in those
days they were on a budget, a large
budget, but they were not rolling in cash.
What you see is inherited wealth with no
taxes paid by the inheritor. Over 5-6
generations of slowly adding to the estate,
it really adds up. That all changed after
WW1, as the series gets into in depth.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

There is only one obscenely wealthy aristocrat left in Britain, the 27 year old Hugh Grosvenor, 7th Duke of Westminster worth $13 billion making him the world's richest person under age 30.The dukedom of Westminster was created by Queen Victoria in 1874, but the family had been extremely wealthy for centuries. The first Duke was widely considered to be the wealthiest man in Britain, but the 7th Duke's fortune is overshadowed by a lot of new money.

Much of the Grosvenor family fortune came after the assembly of huge tracts of land in Mayfair and Chelsea after the Great Fire of London in 1666. Mary Davies inherited 500 acres of swamp land and married into the Grosvenor family in 1677. The family still owns 300 acres of this land today.

Not particularly surprising, Hugh is dating.

It was never the wealth of the Brit upper
class that was astounding, many of them
could barely afford the lifestyle in any
century. It was their place in society
that gave them their power and prestige.
You cannot beg borrow buy or steal that
kind of power, and many rich Americans
did try and buy or marry their way in. It
almost never worked, they were never
accepted or trusted.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Speaking of Stranger Things, Finn Wolfhard who plays Mike, will be playing Richie in next year's R-rated remake of Stephen King's IT.

I think the second season of Stranger Things is considerably better than the first.

I just finished episode 4.

I'm not a fast binge watcher. I have to take breaks otherwise I find myself zoning out.
