The rumors of a "choose your own adventure" style Black Mirror episode/movie have permeated the internet for a while and now, there is a trailer for it's release tomorrow on Netflix:

Who will be spending the weekend watching and choosing?

Black Mirror is right up there with torture porn (like Saw or Hostel) to me.I can't watch it.

I tried to watch 2 episodes and was
so bored and disgusted I gave up.
I don't get why it's appealing. I felt
the same way about Dexter. A show
with a serial killer hero? That's some
sick crap..

Black Mirror is a series of self-contained episodes (although they do take place in the same "universe" as one can find "Easter eggs" in each episode but, it is not horror - it is sci-fi -- and there are some particularly poignant and even romantic episodes such as "Hang the DJ" and "San Junipero" - not sure why anyone here thinks it is a horror series

I watched an episode on Netflix based on the recommendations here. It was about folks trapped as characters in a “Star Trek” video game. I thought it was a fun premise, with high production value, and it even had one of my favorite actors, Jimmy Simpson, but the long format was too much. It would have been better if it was only 26 - 46 minutes long.

I’m willing to give a couple other episodes a try.

Have not sampled Black Mirror. But you both say very well my thoughts on the whole genre. Torture porn...wow. I will find other stuff to watch.

That kind of movie/show tends to haunt me.

Babs - it is not torture porn at all - the episodes are morality plays set in the future based upon technology gone wild

Ok, I'm reading this thread and the Black Mirror one. I'm very interested in the subject of future tech, drawbacks, and all. (My favorite living SciFi author is John Varley, and he writes great novels based on exactly this -highly recommend his 8 Worlds novels and short stories).

Would you possibly, in the Black Mirror thread, be willing to make a list of the episodes that are watchable and those that are not? I've seen lots of recommendations for San J and some for a couple others. What do I avoid?

For example, I can never unsee the murder by large drill bit in Body Double. Great cast, good sexy thriller, unholy gore. I would want to avoid any episodes that would offer grotesque images like that.
