In Ozark, everybody knows.
I tried twice and couldn't get past the second episode.

We are binging on Deadwood again, preparing for the final event.

.

In the 2nd episode they leave $8 mil
under the bed of the cheapest motel
in town, with their kids in charge.
Just like anybody would do, right?

Of course they get $3 mil of it stolen,
but wait. Not only does the daughter
know who did it, she knows exactly
where they are! So dad goes there
and confronts half a dozen Ozark
bearded ignorant hillbillies with
guns, and talks them out of the lottery
they just won. Wow, soooo believable.

My problem is, there isn't a single
sympathetic character. They are all
unlikable. The parents are totally
self centered, the daughter is a
stuck up jerk, the son is a weirdo
who cuts the guts out of dead
animals. The FBI agent is a Gay
jackass. I don't care what happens
to any of them.

Why didn't they just enter witness protection in the first episode? (I know there would be no series but, wouldn't that have been the common sense thing to do?)

Episode #52 of Ray Donovan, "Sold" (August 27, 2017) has the stupid brother put $1 million in a diaper bag. He gets hungry and walks into a sandwich shop and wisely carries the diaper bag with him rather than leave it in the car. Naturally a couple of thugs are robbing everybody in the place, and they don't even realize it's full of cash.

As his accountant explains to him, he was doing a legitimate real-estate deal, and he could have gotten a cashier's check like normal honest people do.

I would like to point out that $8 million in $100 banknotes would weigh 176 lbs, and at least 20 lbs for a proper carrying crate. Did they show a trunk or a briefcase?

The $3 mil was in a regular sized suitcase.
The $5 mil was in 2 mid sized duffles.

Frank Sinatra was accused by the FBI
of taking $1 mil in $1000 bills in a
regular briefcase in the early 60's to
Cuba. As was pointed out, you can't fit
one thousand $1000 bills is a briefcase.
Even so, the FBI never backed off
the accusation.

That is only 2.2 lbs of banknotes. That should fit in a standard briefcase.
one thousand bills

The following pouch ($220) is sold to specifically carry $1,00,000 in hundred dollar bills (weighs 22 lbs)

The idea is that it doesn't look like you are carrying money.

Quote: Product Description
In many countries project expenses and payroll for the local crew need to be carried in cash. Whether you’re managing a team of thirty working for months at the edge of the grid, or on a solo trip to negotiate a significant cash transaction, the 1M Hauly is designed for discreet, safe carry of up to $1 Million USD in strapped, new or used $100 USD banknotes.

Designed to address the six main issues with carrying significant volume banknotes in field: risk of discovery; risk of damage (especially in high-humidity, monsoon environments); container robustness; carryability; glide; and in-field accounting.

We've used these in field, from dense urban environments to the Horn of Africa.

The 1M Hauly will comfortably fit US$1 Million (20.4lb) in used US $100 banknotes. A robust haul loop at each end is sized to fit a large gloved hand and can accommodate carabiners and other attachments if hands-free movement is required.

Overtly sealed pouches attract undue attention at checkpoints, border crossings and airport security. Each pouch is built from the same grade Dyneema that is used on the D3 Traveller duffel. Despite being two times stronger than Kevlar, or about half the weight, the material maintains an innocuous appearance. It takes about three trips for a pouch to reach a matte, crumpled state.

I had the facts wrong.

"Sinatra was going through customs with a briefcase containing "three and a half million in fifties" and that customs officials opened the case."

It was 1947 and he was bringing Mob
money into the US from Lucky Luciano
in Cuba. It's a ridiculous charge, it
would take a steamer trunk to hold
that many used $50 bills.

Here is a reference.

Yes, that would be over 150 lbs in cash. That would certainly require a steamer trunk.

The storylines on these shows that
are released all at once are kind of
silly at times. The main character
on Ozark has 3 people who want
to kill him. The hillbilly crime
family, the Snell family, and his
boss. Is this supposed to cause
anxiety in the audience? We
know he can't die or the series
will die.

I just go to IMDB and look at how
many ep's each character is in.
That tells me who goes and who
stays.
