I enjoy both. But, the Witcher is nonstop violence. At least so far it has been. As far as sexual violence, maybe not?, but lots of violence and sex.... |

It is? The show I'm watching is 90% dialog with a little violence here and there. Yet all you see is 'nonstop' violence? Your opinion is meaning less and less to me on a daily basis. You over state the crap out of everything. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

What I have seen is very violent. And, of the interviews with the writers and production leading up to the release they were talking about how it would be a mature show with violence, sexuality, and racism (not something I remeber in the first three episodes). The first episode especially was quite violent. (far more violent than the first episode of GOT).... |

Face Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 61 Posts: 3941 | Sometimes things hit different. Violence on GoT never registered, except the drama of it. It wasn't "omg, stab a pregnant woman" it was "omg, killed the king and his beloved". OTOH, I had a hard time with "Zodiac". That was like "oof, can't watch that". Stab Stark's fiance, I was wide eyed and yelling at the TV. Stabbing that tied up girl on the river and I was looking away and waiting until it was over. Maybe cuz one is fantasy and the other happened? I dunno, but Zodiac definite disturbed me. Only thing disturbing about GoT was Seasons 6-8. Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it. |

That isn't NON STOP violence as you claimed. You do this a LOT, over state things to make a point. I'm really tired of it.
I thought there was way too much confusing dialog, it went on and on and on. So far I haven't seen any gratuitous violence. The period they they are depicting were violent times. Hell, in Shakespear's day, a play would often open with a wild animal, like a bear, being torn to pieces by dogs, in front of a cheering crowd. Bears eventually became scarce and other animals were used. There is so much dialog I sometimes turn on closed captions because their English accents are hard to understand when the women speak. Wanna see gratuitous violence, watch any ep of Gunsmoke or Rifleman. That was violence. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

It's called exaggeration for effect or hyperbole, its appriotate when talking about inconsequential entertainment topics, it's not appropriate when discussing political policy (such as the vast classification of a group of people).... Saying an episode is "nonstop action/violence" is hardly being over the top when praising a TV show which is built around such a premise.... You are far more over the top with your generalization of Game of Thrones.... |

I had very low expectations about "The Witcher" and it is far better than I thought. The character is much more suited to Cavill's minimalistic acting style than Superman. I particularly like how the story comes together via flashbacks. You have to pay more attention. The violence is the kind with very low emotional content which doesn't bother me. A Netflix show where the violence has high emotional content would be "Altered Carbon" where characters are broken down mentally by repeated simulations of torture that are realistic to them. A movie with violence of a highly emotional content is SEVEN. The physical mayhem on screen is actually very low, but it is designed to play on your mind. |

I know what it's called, and it's inappropriate in online conversations. And you know it. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I like the Witcher character, he's very low-key and nothing bothers him. He said something tonight that impressed me. They were talking about destiny this and destiny that, and Witcher says "Destiny makes people feel like there is order in all this horseshit, when there's not." Wow, philosophy I can relate to.
I agree. So far I've seen no torture violence, no sexual violence. I call it low-impact violence to advance the story. This is not a show about violence. With every episode we get deeper into the story. I also had very low expectations, this is after all a Netflix production. But so far I'm pretty impressed though I'm not holding my breath. I like what they did with the Yennifer character. They made her pretty ugly and hard to look at, then she was transformed into a pretty attractive young woman. And her whole demeanor changed. The writing on this show looks like they're trying to get at least five or six seasons out of it. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
