People in CA probably think an EV is a help to the environment.

For people in Southern California, it's a local issue. Los Angeles County has 6,433,000 registered vehicles and rain in July averages 0.01 inches. Even in 2019, Los Angeles is still the smoggiest city in America.. And if you live there, it's not always easy to ignore.

All that and LA is nested in a valley of sorts that just traps the smog. Read years ago where someone thought of putting big, I mean BIG, exhaust fans in some of the mountains. I saw this smog when I was out there, just one more reason I could never live there.

Since 60% of China's electricity comes from coal and the majority of the rest from fossil fuels how is this reducing CO2? Coal fired buses to go with the coal fired phones.

We need more biomass/wood fired electric generators such as the one in Kettle Falls Washington. http://biomassmagazine.com/articles/6291/leaving-a-legacy

This wood generator is considered renewable energy. Burn wood waste.

Europe is converting large coal fired plants to burn wood pellets that are considered green energy. In the short term they produce more CO2 than the coal does and we don't get the atmosphere cleansing from the trees cut down to produce the pellets. None of theses issues are black and white do a little deeper research on it TP. On the scale of a 100 years they might be carbon neutral but in the short term they are not. Over half the trees cut down in the southern US are going to Europe to fire these plants as pellets. Are you in favor of losing your forests to generate power in Europe, just asking.

I am in favor of man benefiting from trees versus termites and beetles. Rather sell trees than have mass forest fires.

Definitely in favor of harvesting forests sustainably. No need to cut down the Amazon though.

Poor management of forests caused billions of dollars and over 80 lives in the recent Calif. camp fire, so yeah.

Pellets can still be made from dying or dead trees, not necessary to cut down prime Redwoods for pellets. Lots of shit trees to chip and press.

Trees can be farmed, same as other plants. Longer cycle of course. Younger trees suck up more CO2 than older trees if that is the concern. Good forest management involves cutting down trees and yes, clear-cutting areas. There were Indian tribes that did clear-burns.

It would be nice to see wood-recycling for this. Problem is it could never be profitable to get old building-materials separated.

One hundred miles south of Salt Lake City, a giant mound of salt reaches thousands of feet down into the Earth. It’s thick, relatively pure and buried deep, making it one of the best resources of its kind in the American West.

Two companies want to tap the salt dome for compressed air energy storage, an old but rarely used technology that can store large amounts of power.

It would work like a giant battery. Hollow caverns carved out of the salt — each more than 1,000 feet from top to bottom and several hundred feet wide — would be pumped full of air at high pressure, using energy generated by solar panels or wind turbines during times when the power isn’t needed. Like storing wind (or sun) in a bottle.

When the power is eventually needed, the tightly packed air would be released from the caverns, turning turbines on the way out to generate electricity.

On September 19, Amazon announced it was purchasing 100,000 delivery vans that are 100% electric. Deliveries will begin in 2021, and the company wants to have 10,000 of them on the streets by 2022. The remaining 90,000 units will be delivered by 2030.

The trucks will be manufactured by Rivian, which recently received a $500 million investment from Ford and a $700 million investment from Amazon.

As corporate fleets go, 100,000 is a huge number. To put it into perspective, FedEx's worldwide fleet of delivery trucks/vans is 85,000. UPS' worldwide fleet is 123,000.
