According to IMDB, Helen Slater is on the pilot.

I think she has a brief cameo as "the earth mother" (not the Krypton mother).

Believe it or not they are starting their third DC comic TV series on the CW, so with supergirl that will be four. It will tie in with their Smallville series.

I would expect any "Supergirl" franchise to fail and fail hard. Why? Because it is nothing but a chick knockoff of the real thing. It is simply lazy work on the part of producers and writers. For the same reason, nobody other than a few feminists likes "Batgirl" as a character.

Why don't they make a female superhero who is original? "Wonder Woman" worked fairly well. Why can't the creative departments actually create?

I was thinking Supergirl originated in the 60s, but actually it was the 50s. I had a few of the original comic books. For awhile I read everything related to the Superman.

Lois Lane had her own comic book series as well.

Krypto is the only early character who didn't get his own comic book early on. He was naked except for his cape.

I remember in the 90's, Xena: Warrior Princess
had a huge lesbian following. I would expect
no less of Supergirl. Feminine girls don't want
to do guy stuff, which is what super heroes are
all about.

The writers catered to that concept.

Supergirl premiered to demo rating of 3.15 and total viewers of 12.955 million which was even higher than Blindspot's 3.12 demo and total viewers of 10.605 million.
But that is with heavy promotion, an iconic hero, and a choice time slot after TBBT.

In the second week, Supergirl's ratings dropped by a third to fall below Blindspot's ratings.
Empire's second season's premier episode had an off the chart demo rating of 6.66 and total viewers of 16.184 million.

While Empire certainly raised the profile of minority actors in TV, Fox's preliminary ratings suggest (as expected) that racial casting does not automatically produce success or failure

Empire 13.506 million almost all black cast
Rosewood 5.965 million black male lead
Grandfathered 3.777 million white leads
The Grinder 3.208 million white leads
Sleepy Hollow 3.432 million white male, black female co-leads
Minority Report 2.182 million white male, black female co-leads

At NBC, Wesley Snipe's high profile crash and burn series, "The Player" , fights with ABC's "Blood & Oil" and "Wicked City" , Fox's "Minority Report" for most disastrous new TV show.

Maybe the should try a Justice League of supermodels?

However, I never really liked Charlie's Angels, so I don't know if that would work, but I guess it ran several seasons.

Supergirl took another massive nosedive for episode #5. I blame it on the horrific episode #4. Though technically still the highest average of CBS four new fall scripted shows, at this rate it may even be terminated. Sometimes it is worse if you are the biggest budget and most heavily promoted new show.

Code Black is the worst performing of CBS four new scripted shows, but after airing 8 episodes before Thanksgiving, CBS upped the order from 13 to 18 episodes. It is essentially performing as expected.

It's pretty bad when the writing is falling
apart by episode 4.

Supergirl (CBS) and Flash (CW) do a crossover episode on March 28th

Viewership for Supergirl temporarily surged post Christmas, but it seems as if Supergirl is on a terrible slide. But as all the new shows are doing just as terrible or much worse, it may be renewed anyway,
