JR Ewing will finally be no more as Larry Hagman passed away this morning at age 81. At 34 years it has to be one of the longest runs of an actor playing a charachter, though not continuous. His obit says he approached the role by overplaying it, almost as a comedy. It clearly worked.

I have to wonder if the reboot of "Dallas" will go on after this. I know it was not the most popular, but it had the "lets look in and see how they are doing" factor at first. It was supposed to have new episodes in Dec/Jan so if they are keeping it at least some must be filmed.

I remember Larry moreso from I Dream of Jeanie. How far did he ever get with Jeanie on that show anyway?

They got married in the end of the run, so all the way I guess.

I think Larry Hagman was much better as Major Nelson then JR Ewing.

I will say jr singlehandedly got me interested in learning about and following the oil industry. When I was a landman and reading docs I imagined working for him. When the new show ignored even basic land practices I went crazy.

I thought Hagman was equally convincing in both roles, a characteristic of a great actor. Another great actor who can do comedy and drama equally well is Robert De Niro, or Robin Williams, who I thought was a one-note spaz in every role until I saw Insomnia and Good Will Hunting. Nice work. This is in contrast to somebody like Al Pacino, who plays every part exactly the same way with the same voice.

Totally convincing both roles given the different TV-eras. One thing remained was that devilish grin. BTW, Barbara Eden an absolute trip as Jeanie, a fair counter to the devilish grin, just toying with the Astronaut.

COME ON... LETS SEE THE RE-RUNS !!!

Wiz gets my vote for post of the year.
