In July, the sun is up in Los Angeles til 8pm, so the batteries keep going until midnight.

You go by total hours of sun, not
just by sunsets. There is 6-7 fewer
hours of sun in the winter.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

There are about 10 hours of sunlight (sunrise to sunset) in Los Angeles in December, and 14 in June.

One video, [probably bs] says these solar farms kill 28 thousand bird deaths per year?

These solar farms are brutal on tortoises and every other desert animal. So whatever the reason for forcing these taxpayer funded "alternative" energy producing devices is, it is costing wildlife enormously on the other end.

You can't pretend to be saving the planet with these things while they are killing so many species. In the video they throw a number out for the decimating of raptors, it's big. No one talks about the pollution caused to get the materials to build these inefficient electricity machines, blood diamond like extraction.

If America wants non fossil energy, they should build nuclear gen plants, or more geo thermal, which there is a lot of.

I don't know what their current numbers are but that solar plant breeds tortoises and releases them elsewhere, as well as rerouting tortoises coming into the area.

They use speakers to blast sound across the areas birds can get scorched and release a chemical smell to drive the birds from the area. They also remove water and food sources near the area, so the birds have no reason to hang around.

I hope the birds they don't frighten away crap on the panels and they have to wash them twice as often. Tortoises probably didn't need a breeding program, they needed their natural habitat.

Funny though, I read our local paper and one political guy that I am very impressed with, Buster Johnson county supervisor as it turns out, has also been on a voluntary tortoise rehab program for 14 years. Strange how stars align.

"Supervisor Buster Johnson served in the U.S. Army, he’s a retired L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy, and a retired private business owner. Supervisor Johnson is currently serving his fifth term as Mohave County Supervisor for District III." I'd probably vote for him at anything he was willing to run for. Very impressive common sense and an honest man.

If you like birds, go protest the big corporate chicken farms. That's more of an atrocity.

How long before people start removing solar panels do to fear of them self igniting?

Agree. Friend just had solar panels put on his roof at the same time he bought an electric car. His analysis of the up front cost, maintenance, and long term electric bill savings made him believe it was a slight money loser for him. But he said it makes him feel good to not be buying gas for his car, or much electricity for his house.
