Speaking of traffic, I ran across a neat app called Flight Radar 24.

When something happens to a plane, they often reference this app on the news.

It aggregates data from multiple sources but, outside of the USA, mostly from crowdsourced information gathering by volunteers with ADS-B receivers.

I've found it pretty accurate.

I may have mentioned the approach/landing path to MEX passes right over my office. The angle is lousy for proper plane spotting, but 99 times out of 100 you can tell the airline, and, depending on the type, I can make out the type about half the time(*). The info on the app lagged a bit, but it correctly identified flights right overhead, at least judging by airline and type.

You can also track flights, look up departure and arrival info at airports, set up alerts, and a few other things. It's an aviation enthusiasts' app.

Is there a website that I can go to to query a specific airport for when a specific type of aircraft operates?

I want to go back to Sunset beach in St. Maarten to watch the planes land. Of course I want to be there if/when the 747 or other large aircraft land.

There must be. I suggest doing a web search for it, adding terms like "plane spotting" and "av geek,"

Can you imagine a Concorde landing there??

I should think none ever did, or there'd be pictures.

Back in the 80s, the airport at Eilat, Israel, had the runway running parallel to a road. You could seat at the median and watch. But there were few flights. Just the same, in 1982 I caught a C-130 landing there. I don't know what the situation is now.

My schedule is pretty open if you need a Captain. I cook, clean, run the vessel, fix the things, unclog the toilets...

;)

Thank you for volunteering but it probably won't help unless you can captain an Airbus-320. I will try and get some pictures and video to post when I return.

The B747 takes off for Amsterdam at noon, and lands about 10:55 AM. I don't know how many days a week as the website is currently down.

Air Caraibes Atlantique and Arkefly (begins 1 November 2015) will fly smaller widebody aircraft to Europe. But the KLM flight (landing 10:55 and takeoff noon) is the only 747 at Saint Maarten. KLM is retiring many of their 747's in the next two years, so I don't know if the one to SXM is going to be one of them.

Thank you, but I did see that. I was hoping to find one that listed the aircraft type without me going to flightware and looking up each one individually.

I will try and post pictures and video next week.
