"With the Church still absorbing the roughly $3 billion cost of a clergy sex abuse scandal, another financial crisis is looming -- a potentially crippling shortfall in funding the pensions of its aging priests...The U.S. Catholic Church has lost millions of its members over the past 14 years...It is basically about poor management on the part of Church leaders."

This article has got to be sobering for
any real Catholic. The Church is collapsing
right before their eyes. God works in mysterious
ways, for them that believe there is a god.

From another article:

"Fewer than 26,265 diocesan priests remain in the U.S. today and of them, only 68 percent -- about 17,900 -- are still in active ministry Only about one-third as many new priests are being ordained each year to make up for the ones who are retiring, dying or leaving active ministry. Half of all priests in active ministry are expected to retire in the next 4 years and get their pensions."

These are stunning stats. For every 100 priests
that retire, die or leave the Church, only 33
new priests are replacing them! And HALF the
active priests are over 60 and will retire in the
next 4 years to a pension that is billions in
debt.

The Vatican has billions in treasure is it's vaults,
but that won't buy new priests or nuns. 3500
parishes in the US have no resident priests at
all. 50 years ago there were 20 million fewer
Catholics, and twice as many active priests.

If this was a company, it would be going out
of business soon.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I'll happily pay $500 for the Pope's license plate.

It doesn't pay very well, plus you have
8 years of hell, er, seminary training
to go through.

Destroying it from within? I'd support you on that.

the church is unlikely to assume the unfunded pension obligations, that is why they have so many different 'orders' its like a cab company wanting to spread liability, so any one corporation only owns four medallions.

the church will let the real estate of the various orders be sold off to developers and will let some educational orders "sell" their reputations to fly by night for profit gi bill mills

the church will also dump the priests onto the public welfare rolls crying 'bankrupted by sex abuse fantasies'.

If they only have 33 new priests for every
100 that leave, whatever the reason, this
is a far bigger problem than the money.

Experts say the Church saw this coming
20 years ago and did nothing about it.
If they would let women enter the priesthood,
it would solve a lot of their problems. But
you get the impression the Church would
rather shut it's door than let that happen.

Estimates are at least half of all priests
worldwide are Gay now, the new pope has
even admitted the Church has a 'Gay problem'.
But let a woman have the same power as
a man? The Church is firmly still in the
15th century on that issue.

Society too has a far bigger problem than the money. There is a commitment to service crisis in our society of which the vocation crisis in the Church is a reflection of. Many denominations that allow for women ministers are not doing much better in regards to vocations. Finding people who are willing to put aside the allure of wealth, power, and prestige to enter into a life of service is not a easy thing to find now a days. There were other times in the Church history where it was just as bad if not worse. When discussing these things you need to remember we are talking about the oldest institution on Earth. For over 2,000 years many people have been predicting its collapse and thinking this problem or that is overwhelming or that the Church needs to do this or that to survive. She has survived it all and she will be fine until the Lord comes again.

It is not worth addressing your ridiculous statement about priest's sexual orientation or your warped view on the male only priesthood.

"Why can't women be ordained priests within the Catholic Church?

Answer

The Church does not have the authority to ordain women. In his apostolic letter Ordinatio Sacerdotalis, Pope John Paul II declared "that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women" (4).

Some of the reasons cited include:

The example recorded in the Sacred Scriptures of Christ choosing his apostles only from among men
The constant practice of the Church, which has imitated Christ in choosing only men
The Church’s living teaching authority has consistently held that the exclusion of women from the priesthood is in accordance with God’s plan for his Church."

So the Church WANTS to ordain women but
god won't let them.

Right.
