Some Uber drivers have been reported to be using a False GPS app to indicate to the smartphone of a rider that the distance traveled is greater than it actually is.

The latest version of Google maps lets you hail an Uber. This appeared on my new phone, without the Uber app installed.

Did you try it? I assume it would make you download the app before you could actually use it.

Nope. I haven't had need to use Uber since they stopped messing with the local car circulation laws in 2016.

My driver today was a real prick. He refused
to discuss Uber with me. He said many of
his passengers just want to say negative
things about Uber and he's sick of it. LOL

Uber gave lessons to its employees on how to hinder and obstruct investigations.

Totally, completely free Driverless Cars proposed by abandoning the Uber model of route selection and group rides but embracing a 'stop or drive-by' that is commercially oriented and based on the rider's known metrics.

So it will be get a free ride but stop for fifteen minutes at Starbucks or get a free ride but slow down while passing a certain House For Sale and listening to its associated phone message.

These Sponsored Rides will replace drivers and event-glut caused by concerts or the like.

Sounds to me like supposedly smart people over-complicating a simple concept of charge from point A to B.

You do have a point but its similar to those urban bicycles that are free to use but have "generic" advertising. Its simply a way of replacing the generic advertising with very personalized commercial "lures" so that the cost is borne by merchants, not riders.

Uber would not be monetizing data about a travelers desires for a taxi but would be monetizing a traveler's commercial metrics to get him a ride to his destination via a particular Place of Commerce somewhat unique to him.
