We are biological beings but we are not just like animals (that is so obvious I am a little embarrassed writing it). I disagree with you about the Earth and universe just going along fine without us but that is based on my faith, the fact that we are not just like animals is science and common sense.

Humans are animals who have evolved to adapt to their environment via their brains

So you are saying once humans are extinct, the Earth and universe will cease to exist? WOW - such hubris

So they are different than other animals, good to know.

Not really, the universe was around a lot longer than humans have been. I'm wondering what meaning you think the Earth and universe would have without us?

All animals differ from other animals

The universe has been here forever
in one form or another. So have
you. If you still yourself and listen,
you can feel the eternalness of
who you are. Not who you think
you are, the person who likes
pizza and football and enjoys
being a priest. The real you.

Where did Xtians get the notion
that the memories they gather
here follow them around for
eternity. Even reincarnated
kids who are born with past
memories lose them after a
few years. They aren't relevant
anymore. Why do Xtians think
they would be relevant in heaven.
Memories are just bookmarks
your brain makes so you can
remember where you parked
your car and who your wife is.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

That's true. Do you think there is anything extraordinarily different about us compared to the rest of the animal world?
By the way I'm not trying to say that we are not part of creation and the animal world. I'm just pointing out the painfully obvious truth that we are radicially different than ever other animal in the way we live but especially in the how and why we live.

Interesting, I was just asking a question, oh well.

Xtion's think that whatever happens
to you in this life, good or bad or
horrible, follows you and haunts
you forever in the afterlife. That's
just plain frightening. Mormon's
carry it a step further. They think
whatever family you have here is
your family forever after you die.
You have to deal with people you
can't stand for eternity. Talk about
a being insecure, good grief.

Plato wrote a dialogue in which Socrates asks
Euthyphro “Is what is morally good commanded
by God because it is morally good, or is it morally
good because it is commanded by God?” This is
known as the 'Euthyphro Dilemma'.

When you really get into this, it makes a farce
out of morality coming from some god. It's
an obvious human invention, a god had
nothing to do with it. This dilemma has
driven theists nuts since Socrates wrote it.
They mostly just choose to ignore it, as
FrG will here. He has no argument to
present.

An all good God has everything to do with morality. God is the source of all that is good. The real dilemma for those who don't ground their morality in God is how can they know or determine what is good. They are left to their own whims, feelings, and desires as the source of morality which is not only dangerous but false and not consistent. If morality was a human invention then we could say genocide or forced sterilizations or rape of children is not objectively evil but really up to the person or society to determine the moral value. Racial slavery was once legal and accepted by society, did that make it a moral good?

Like in biblical times. Nowhere does the bible, even Jesus, condemn slavery.
