I remember hearing studios used to keep fields of cars in storage to use. Now they rent them.

There are companies that all they do
is rent vintage restored cars to movie
and TV productions. It's pretty funny
that once you notice, every car in the
parking lot, or in traffic, is brand new
looking. Most people don't pay enough
attention to details like that.

"Mindhunter" filmed a scene 4 blocks from my house. I was waiting for the bus and a flatbed full of blue late-70s Novas rolled by. They were for the show. I knew it had to be a larger outfit as nobody would collect these things. Must be a hundred sitting somewhere for when they need 70s narc vehicles.

I grimace every time Fast and Furious destroys another vintage 67 GTO.

When they need cars from the
20's and 30's, they often rent
from private individuals. Cars
that old are not worth keeping
in storage by the big rental
companies. I've been to car
shows where the owners have
'Seen in' this or that movie on
the car.

My dad had his in a few. You got a rental for the car and paid as an extra. One movie had issues with cars overheating and even running out of gas from circling the block so many times. Being "in" a movie is usually nothing special. My uncle owned what he believed to be the Excalibur from "Ruthless People." Even if it was, we are not talking about the car as the center of the movie.

When the car is the center of the movie, it has often been destroyed. Or cut up so they could mount cameras.

Interest in automobilia is dying. Since all
cars look alike now, there hasn't been
a new generation of interest in 20 years.

I view cars as disposable now. In my 20's I was very attached to the PoS cars I owned. Now they are like a washing machine, you just use it for a while and upgrade to a new one after several years.

Some license plate collectors have side businesses leasing their plates for period movies. However, I pay particular attention to license plates in movies, and it seems to me that most of the time the movie makers make their own license plates based off of pictures. You can tell because of things like not getting the font quite right and they always look brand new.

Lots of movies have older vehicles but they are usually very clean. Teamsters driving them have to wear booties.

Cool Hand Luke was filmed near Bakersfield, California but supposedly took place in Texas and an old car in the film did have some old Texas plate on it but I don't know if it was authentic.

Cars now are not even advertized as distinctive,, only the names are advertised. Subaru ads don't even mention the car's features only its brand.

Collect cars? Its a rent only world.

I'd be pretty sure it was in that era.

Cars today have no feeling, no heart. So why bother having a name? Cars today, especially at the top end, the name sounds like a SKU.

As I always say, nobody will make a song about driving their Camry to the levy.
