The 2015-2016 season's NFL championship is the fiftieth. Ever since the fifth championship, the games have been identified with Roman numerals. Unfortunately, the Roman numeral for 50 is the fairly unimpressive: "L".

The NFL says the change is only for this year, but should the tradition of Roman numerals continue, or is it time to go decimal?

I get the unimpressive part.

Most graphics would give rise to thoughts such as: "Today's Super Bowl is brought to you by the letter 'L' "

I understand he has a name "L Lawliet", but still, even he won't do with just a Times Roman, or Arial font.

Roman numerals look classy when the numbers are low and less so as you go up, they just get bulky and confusing. Time to ditch them and move on.

I just looked it up on Wikipedia
You are right
but
I cant remember the show ever mentioning his last name.
He is always referred to as just "L". Nobody knows his real name.
This is important in the plot.
A teenager finds a special Death Note book. (dropped by mistake by some hellish creature)
If the teen knows somebody's name and face, all he has to do is write that name in the death note book and that person dies.
First the teen kills all prisoners.
Now he is thinking of killing the police because they are after him.

The other thing is if you recall Super Bowl XL (40 for those who don't speak Roman) was often called "Super Bowl Xtra Large." SB L would be merely "Super Bowl Large." It seems like a step down, unless it's been trying to lose weight.

LI, LII, and LIII don't sound very interesting. LIV has a certain ring to it, though.

I've known Roman numerals since elementary school, but I never got to the point where I could just read them and not have to translate them [unless real simple] ... so this makes me dislike them if they are flashed quickly by, like in movie credits.
