. They practiced an alien religion

The Irish had an alien religion? I thought they
were Catholic. The Catholics had been in
America since the 1500's, what alien religion
are you talking about.

Catholics may have been here, but worrying about John Kennedy taking orders from the pope was a popular sentiment in 1960
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

Also, I lived directly across the street from a Catholic school until about age 11. No one on my street knew any of the kids who went there.

My first opinion of Catholics was that they were mysterious.

Yes, I remember the rioting and the suicide
bombings over him being Catholic. It was
a horrible time to live through. Snicker..

No it was political argument. Kennedy addressed it directly.

There were few Catholics in the original colonies but the US picked up other land from predominantly Catholic countries France and Spain. The major immigrants in the 19th century, Italian, Irish, Polish, Ukranian were all from Catholic countries. As mentioned above many people considered JFK unelectable because he was Catholic. My post was a quote from the History Channel.

Remember this gem? Infobabe in a canoe in inches of water!

Matt Lauer's slip 4 seconds in was interesting too. "N-B-shit-C's ..."

Gee, really? I was there, I was in
7th grade debate and had the Kennedy
side. It was a nothing, it sure didn't
keep him from being elected. Trying
to equate Muslim immigrants to
Catholic immigrants is comparing
apples to cannon balls. There is no
comparison, the Bible does not say
to kill all infidels, the Koran does.

HISTORY OVERRULES YOU!

They can be compared because apparently there were ignorant bastards back then. (bastard is in the Bible in case Wizards watching)

Quote:
Conflict between Protestants and Catholics in the United States had already broken out in violence before the first potato plant wilted in Ireland. Anti-Catholic, anti-Irish mobs in Philadelphia destroyed houses and torched churches in the deadly Bible Riots of 1844. New York Archbishop John Hughes responded by building a wall of his own around Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral in order to protect it from the native-born population, and he stationed musket-wielding members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians to guard the city’s churches. Wild conspiracy theories took root that women were held against their will in Catholic convents and that priests systematically raped nuns and then strangled any children born as a result of their union.
