He changed his name? To what, King?

I read his biography. He changed his name because he was being bullied and suffocated by his record company who literally told him "We own you, little man. We own your music, we even own your name." So he severed his ties, changed his name and said "You don't own THIS name, bitch!" He changed it back ten years later or so.

I read the past few days he had issues with his label. I always give such stars a boo-hoo-hoo as they were happy for the push they got on the way up and when the label wanted to cash in they cried the blues. Today the labels have lost much of that power, but back then you knew going in that you sold your soul.

I have no strong feelings either way about Prince.

I'm not a big music person. I think I've purchased maybe like 5 albums total in my life. So his death doesn't mean much to me.

Same thing with David Bowie earlier this year. And Glenn Frey also...

From age 35 to age 42 he changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol. He was known as "the artist who was formerly known as Prince". It was a brilliant marketing move.

When he was 37, he married his 22-year-old backup singer and dancer Mayte Garcia on Valentine's Day 1996. They had a son named Boy Gregory on October 16, 1996, who was born with a very rare genetic disorder characterized by the premature fusion of certain bones of the skull (craniosynostosis), which prevents further growth of the skull and affects the shape of the head and face and died a week later. Prince and Mayte divorced in 1999.

It's so odd, I never heard of this.
I never heard him sing, never saw
him on a talk show, couldn't name
a song he did if my life depended
on it. Yet his death in getting Michael
Jackson coverage, people are weeping.

I looked at a couple Youtube performances
and couldn't watch more than a minute
of them. I don't get it.

That's because you're so old and out of touch, Bob. You were probably still listening to Sinatra in the mid-80s when Prince totally ruled the airwaves. I bet you still listen to Sinatra. Tell me, how many instruments did Sinatra play? Price was a virtuoso of 27 instruments. I don't understand how anyone can live with blinders on like you do, and his head in the sand. And you seem so proud of it.

I was in my 30's in the 80's, I never heard
him sing. Listening to him on Youtube he
has a voice almost like a girls, very high
pitched. I probably heard him and thought
it was a woman, and turned it off. He's
dead of a 25 year addiction to opiates,
it's a miracle he lived to 57. Wanna bet
who'll they'll remember a hundred years
from now? They'll still be playing Sinatra.

Roy Clark can play any instrument that
has strings, which is far more than 27.
What's your point. And I consider Roy
far more talented than Prince. Roy
is still playing in his 80's, no pesky drug
addictions for him.

Sheesh, Prince is in almost every genre. Love this cover with Kravitz of the Guess Who's "American Woman"

Hope that superstition about things happening in 3s is not going to come true. Bowie, now Prince -- another cool person is gonna die.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?
