He may have been working for his own corporation which was loaning out his services... don't know if workers comp is shifted in such a situation or not.

Mark Harmon makes $600K an episode, but
it's the number one show in the world and
it's an hour long. I just can't see Tyler Ferguson
making 300K as part of a large cast on a half
hour comedy show.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I gather that the 30 minute sitcoms make much more money in syndication than dramas. Rico Rodriguez will be making $115K an episode which is more than Ed O'Neill made up through season #3.

But that's later money, residuals are
made after the fact. I'm talking about
the network salaries they make. For
sure half hour comedies are the backbone
of syndication. The kids on MF can live
very good lives for the next 20 years
just on the residuals they'll get.

I think that the networks must be considering salary caps. I heard that they wanted to cap all first year salaries at $125K per episode, but then they paid more for Robin Williams ($165K for The Crazy Ones ).

I wonder how the books actually work out. I think only Patricia Heaton makes over $250K for "The Middle" as her TV husband and children make far less. Does the TV network make more profit on a show with lower ratings, but radically lower salary requirements.

With viewership dropping every year, one would think that they would put a salary cap (say $250K) and let the stars leave the shows if they can't live on $6 million a year.

AS you pointed out with NCIS, there is a certain financial logic to 60 minute shows over 30 minute shows. The CW network has completely dumped 30 minute shows, and NBC only has about 3 of the half hour shows on the air.

The 10-90 contracts being used for cable shows may simply become more popular in broadcast. In this contract they make 10 episodes, air them on TV, if they meet a minimal threshold than a contract is let for another 90 episodes. The star takes a smaller salary in exchange for a bigger percentage of the syndication. It usually works with 30 minute shows, because they try to make 2 per week instead of 1 per week. Some stars have made a lot of money with this contract type.
