What order should they watch the previous six films to get up to speed before seeing the new film (#7)?

Should they watch them in the chronological order produced: 4 (The original movie), 5, 6; then the later produced "prequel", episodes #1,2 and 3?

Or, is it better watch them in episode order #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, since that should make the most sense from a story flow perspective?

Or something else?

Previous three films.

I'm sure that's a definitive answer :)

4,5,6,7.

Or just go watch 7 anyways... there's some back story and stuff that makes more sense (like why is there that old dude, who this?), but the story itself works mostly without knowing too much.

1,2,3 you can watch if you decide you really like the films.

I agree.

1, 2, and 3 aren't worth it unless you are really really into the star wars universe.

Or are into masochism.

Oh, the effects are good, the first movie leaves you with a feeling that's something earth-shaking will happen, and Natalie Portman does a great job all round. But then it all falls flat.

That, too.

I had been anticipating watching the Jedi at their peak, not just one or two piecemeal. That was really good, particularly the casual ease most of them display when fighting. But Yoda wielding a light sabre was just ridiculous.

If you're in the mood for a laugh, search YouTube for "Batman vs Darth Vader." Make sure to watch the long version, which has an ending. It's an amateur, unofficial clip, but rather well done all things considered. The dialogue is pretty good about half the time, especially Batman's quips ("I underestimate nothing.")
