Alan Rickman had such an incredible sense of humor. I didn't even know he was sick.

Can't imagine Diehard with any other bad
guy. He would have been 70 this year. What
did he die of, it's quite a surprise.

Cancer. Not sure which type. He seems to have been a pretty private individual.

My favourite short by Alan:

My heart sank when I saw the picture under this title. I saw everything he was cast in just to watch him. What a loss!

I had no idea of his age or his illness. Damn.

In this world of Disney child stars, I have a fondness for someone who grew up in the theater, and did his first film role (Die Hard) in his forties. Did you know that he dated/lived with/married the same woman for 50 years?

The scene where he shows surprise and fear as he falls from the building to his death is great.
The surprise and fear were real
The Director asked him to fall back about 25 feet onto an airbag
He was supposed to be dropped on a count of 3
They purposely dropped him on a count of one to get that fear look as he wasn't ready to be dropped :-)

I had heard all that, thanks! Remarkable guy in so many ways.
