I don't minimize the importance or the power of our constitution. The men who drafted it were extremely wise in the rights that are granted, and for the most part, these rights have stood the test of time. But as society evolves so should the laws that govern that society. After 232 years and the advances in firearms from colonial times, I for one think this is the time to review this right and limit (not prohibit) certain types of weapons.

I'm not taking this position as a knee jerk reaction to the events of last Friday, but as a response to number of the homicides and accidental shootings committed in this country on an annual basis. Just because a person knows his or her killer doesn't somehow make it OK.

1. We do limit he kinds of weapons you can own. Fully-automatics are prohibited for example

2. How many accidental shootings do you think there are?

3. Removal of guns will not change homicides. Gangs will still get illegal guns. People determined to get rid of you will just find another way.

Sure, can't stop child porn EITHER, so why do anything at all, RIGHT?

You for that idea too?

Prohibition dealt with addictive substances. Sexually related stuff is difficult too for similar reasons, but we try with things like child porn.

Are guns addictive?

Since they're so resourceful, we can stop making it so damned easy for them then.

Child porn is not a constitutional right, guns are.

Guns don't hurt people, child porn does.

There is no responsible way to use child porn, the majority of guns will be used responsibly

Suppose they start pushing their victims out of windows. Would you then call to ban windows? Would you say with modern a/c people don't "need windows?" Then what next?

This would be hilarious if it weren't just...sad.

I would have been very happy for that boy to have just pushed those kids out the window instead. And any kid who voluntarily jumped out the window before he got to them would have lived as well.

That's a ridiculous example and you know it.

I won't debate with someone who compares guns to cars, bikes, and windows.

Guns DO kill, they are the tool used by Adam Lanza and thousands of others this year to kill someone. There isn't another weapon that people can readily access that is used to kill as much as guns.

You are the king of the slippery slope argument, AZ.

Look, I agree with you more than I disagree with you. But your debate tactics are shoddy at best.

Speaking of the Constitution, I figure the Constitution is either living for all purposes or not. Why not be happy with the guns of our founding fathers? Yes, you can have a 6 hundred lb cannon even, I really don't care about that. (You'll get prosecuted if you blow in your neighbor's walls.)

If the Constitution is living we can regulate you to less efficient weopontry that way too.

I bet [too bad this is in DT and not WoV?] that the assault rifle ban that expired in 2004 [iirc] will be re-instated. So called assault rifles, basically a 'scary-looking weapon ban'.

I am OK with the ban, what the hell, if it makes people feel safer. Generally speaking you also cannot go around with machine guns, grenade launchers, grenades, or even a sawed-off shotgun.

I also predict we will have more school shootings even if the politicians go further than that. Appeals to coward-nuts in two ways:
*gets lots of publicity
*the targets are guaranteed to offer no resistance
