Happy Easter and may the message of this day even for unbelievers give a sense of hope that goodness and love will always win in the end. Our world so desperately needs to reject violence and have a reason to fight against fear and despair. May we all in our many ways find that in our lives.

So to do that, you violently nail poor old
Jesus back onto his cross once a year. I
don't think you're sending the message
you think you are. Glorifying violence
is not the way to eradicate violence.

Think about what you're advocating, here.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Do you think the crucifixion is glorifying violence? Do you think that the Gospel is advocating for violence?

Figuratively nailing Jesus back on the cross
once a year is glorifying a violent act. Seeing
Jesus in every Catholic church, still hanging
on the cross is glorifying violence. Seeing
him on a crucifix around somebody's neck
is glorifying violence. That's rather the point,
isn't it. A constant reminder that violence
can be a good thing, a positive thing. That
suffering can be noble and worthwhile.

That was mom Teresa's sick schtick, that
the people suffering in her clinics were
brought closer to god by their suffering.
That's why she refused to make things
better for them, the more suffering, the
better. It was saintly, even. Masochistic,
mostly.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Making a symbol out of what was once
a horrifying form of capital punishment
is glorifying violence, most definitely.

It's not unlike old TV westerns like Gunsmoke
and The Rifleman. The opening of both shows
had the main characters firing their weapons
at people. This let us know what the theme
of the shows were, that they glorified violence.
In fact, Lucas McCain in The Rifleman, killed
an average of 3.5 people per episode. Think
about that for a minute. Who knows how many
Matt Dillon killed, in 20 years it was hundreds
and hundreds.

Having a man dying man hanging on a cross in
a church, or around someones neck, is sending
the message that your theme is violence and
death. That Christianity is a death worshiping
religion. It's what they talk about constantly.
The death of Jesus, what happens after you
die, will it be heaven or the fires of eternal
hell. The Church is obsessed with death.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
