Only six A350s delivered so far this year. The goal was to be about 50 aircraft delivered by the end of the year. It seems like Airbus is having serious production problems.

My son works for AA and I know he
flew a A380 to EU last year. It must
have belonged to another airline,
no US carriers have Airbus. He even
posted a pic of it.

I assume you mean no US carriers have an Airbus 380. Many smaller models of Airbus planes are flown by US carriers. American and Delta even fly 60 Airbus widebodies, versions of the A330. Delta has a big order in for the A350. The narrow body A320s are even being assembled in the USA as of this year.

American Airlines is a member of the airline alliance Oneworld. There are a lot of member airlines, but only three that have A380s.
British Airways has 11 with 1 more on the books
Qantas has 12 with 8 more on the books
Qatar Airways has 6 with 4 more on the books

My best guess is it was a BA flight:
British Airways operates then from London to Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Washington DC, Hong Kong , Singapore, and Johannesburg .
Which city does your son mostly fly from?

He flies out of Philly. But that's
meaningless. He could fly to
Miami and from there fly another
plane to London.

Qantas flies their A380 from Melbourne (MEL) & Sydney (SYD) to Los Angeles (LAX) & Dallas (DFW)
Qatar Airways doesn't even fly their A380 to USA the last I checked.
So it must have been a British Airways plane. I don't think pilots fly something that is not part of their alliance.

But the Boeing 777 is the critical moneymaker for Boeing. Airbus is not expecting the A380 to ever recover and make money. They just pray that it stops losing money. The A350 is critical to Airbus's health. This delivery schedule seems catastrophic.

It might have been a lessor number, 330
maybe. You have me confused now.

You mean he hopped a ride or he was the pilot?

An Airbus A330 is a widebody of 250-300 seats that American inherited from USAir. It is possible that if your son was an American pilot for a number of years, he would have only been recently trained to fly one as they have only been part of the American fleet for about 2.5 years. AA has a fleet of over 100 Boeing widebodies as well.

Airbus A330-200 (332) (Seats:20 Business 224 Economy 14 Main Cabin Extra) 15 planes average age of 4.4 Years
Airbus A330-300 (333) (Seats:28 Business 263 Economy) 9 planes average age of 15.8 Years

The A380 was first delivered to an airline (Singapore Air) 8.5 years ago. It is a double deck airplane that can theoretically carry over 800 passengers.

My wife is booked on a Thomas Cook A330-200 but it doesn't have a first class set up like pictured above. I believe the front is 2-3-2 seating and the main cabin is 2-4-2 as pictured above.

I love those Seat Guru maps which show not one desirable seat in a wide body :)
