Before being removed from the stage, Stephen Colbert, in costume, opened the "Hungry for Power Games"

The current speaker on stage started out his speech with "Blue Lives Matter" and then went on to mention how glad he was today in Baltimore when there was no conviction in the death of Freddie Gray. It got a BIG applause.

The GOP is icky.

I'm looking forward to their destruction this November.

GOOD! It deserves big applause. The guy should never have even been tried on such charges. 4 cops acquitted in this case now! Some push has started to quit wasting time and drop the charges against the rest. Just a case of a DA doing a vendetta for a mob, trying to score points.

Hopefully the Democrats keep coming out against the cops. The public will just love them for that!
The President is a fink.

You must have stocked up on the rightie Kool Aid at Costco.

Democrats aren't coming out against the cops.

The public will certainly love the Dems more than the GOP come November... I'm giddy.

Trump should get a convention bump, or he surely will be considered doing badly.

Can someone explain to an outsider what the actual purpose of these conventions are? From what I have been watching it just seems like a circle jerk for supporters of the GOP Presiderial nominee (the DNC will be the same for Hillary no doubt). Why do thousands of people who most likely play no serious part in anything need to spend 4 days in an indoor arena patting each other on the back? Why can't the few people there who will actually have any influence do the same thing in a smaller venue in a fraction of the time?

It's to officially certify the candidate. The people
there have been working for a year on nominating
and now it's time to wrap it all up and send him
on his way. So they have a big convention and
party at night. It's tradition that goes back to
before the Civil War. The only way to make sure
it was all done legally was to get together in
one place.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Tradition as much as anything at this point. I mean, it could all be done on a video conference now. But... that's unlikely.
