Anyone know why Mormons where once called "Blues" ... which in Australia would mean a red head. See the recent column on how young Mormon men suffer if they do not sign up to go on a mission. Looking for Jesus? Or traveled by donations raised by their local recruiting hall and looking for music, pot and young girls? |

I'm at an event where more than a million young people from all over the world are expected. This happens every three years and every time sets records in the country hosting. There is no other institution, orginizarion, religion, or even state that could do what these World Youth Day events do. It overshadows even the Olympics. I also wish you could see the real faith of these young people, wrestling with their own issues the constant barrage of secularism and materialism. They are heroic and it is a huge shot in the arm for everyone who comes. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

The walls are covered with thanksgivings for healings and answered prayers. The weather continues to be great and the people have been great too. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

And it's a fact that the more people that believe something, no matter how ridiculous it is, that makes it true. Right? If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

That's stupid, of course it doesn't mean it is true. However, it is evidence that something is happening and you should pay attention. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Do you have a count of how many countries represented? The President is a fink. |

You say it's stupid now, but a year ago you trotted it out all the time. You would say, look around the world, a couple billion believers can't be wrong. Sure they can, as we've pointed out a dozen times. Now you say the argument is stupid, which it obviously is. It is evidence all right, evidence that you can fool a lot of people most of the time. But we know that already, look at any big religion in history. What you experience in large groups of like minded people is called 'crowd synergy', and it's a very real thing. The energy produced is far greater than the sum of it's parts. This can result in the time of your life at a rock concert, a spiritual closeness at a Christian festival, or a mob of people lynching a black man in the not so distant past. Hitler was a master at whipping into a frenzy the huge crowds who heard him speak. Science to the rescue again, explaining what's really happening when like minded people get together. God has nothing to do with any of it. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

There is no wall for those healings that didn't come, or for all the unanswered prayers. Good thing too, it would have eclipsed the other wall completely.. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

FrGamble Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 67 Posts: 7596 | You know another thing that is stupid is claiming millions of young people gathering from all over the world is an example of some super crowd synergy like at a rock concert. Believe me God is real and has everything to do with this amazing event in Poland. You also have to be careful in how quickly you write off something that has millions or billions of followers. While we both agree that this alone does not mean it is true. I hope we can also agree that this is evidence that something worth noting is going on and we should seriously look into it. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Believe me crowd synergy is very real and very provable. God is not provable in the least. I can't believe somebody as smart as you is falling for crowd synergy as being something other that what it is.
That like minded people getting together produce an energy greater than the sum of it's parts? It's just your crowd of people right now, so you're impressed. Ever been to big a sporting event between rival teams? The synergy there is unreal, I suppose you think that's god also. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
