| Nareed Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 346 Posts: 12545 | The argument in the article is that the GOP base is mainly about "white nationalism," while the conservative movement is focused on things like smaller government, free markets and fiscal responsibility. Certainly the Trump candidacy illustrates that bigotry and xenophobia are a big draw in the GOP. What the article doesn't say is that the free market view was displaced because it just isn't as popular. It's a minority view. Therefore we should see the GOP go full-on Trump-style open racism, with a microscopic fig leaf denying the racism it advocates is actually racism. That this should kill the party is not at all obvious. It would if the majority view on the right wasn't racist. We shall see what happens to the party at large. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |
