I think Morse fails and makes far more mistakes than what was typical of a lead detective at the time, and he does have a penchant of 'chatting up' people aligned to the case; and getting involved when he really shouldn't.

He is very flawed. He gets personally attracted to suspects, and loses all perspective.

In the words of John Thaw, describing the character he plays:
''If you think about it, it's unbelievable. A policeman driving a very nice old classic car, a red Jaguar, around Oxford, going into a pub and having a pint of beer when he feels like it. Oxford is having something like five murders a week. It's a totally unreal fairyland, as opposed to the nitty-gritty police stuff. This is in the realm of Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie. It's certainly not in the realm of 'Prime Suspect' or 'N.Y.P.D.' ''

Cookie cutter or no, you can't not like House. Jesus Christ, my whole world is falling apart here.

I liked the first episode a lot. The 2nd was
OK. In the 3rd I said, hold on, this is a repeat
of the first 2 with a different sick person.
Then I started reading reviews and even the
people who loved it say it's way too repetitive.

"Every single episode is the same thing, all the episodes are boring, formulaic and predictable and all end in the same way (House was right, and the others were wrong)"

"This is one of those shows that you could watch one and know the entire story."

After reading 40 reviews mostly like these, and
seeing for myself they are right, the show is a
waste of time. All you're doing is getting played
by the writers who think this crap up every week.

Hospital shows by their nature are soap operas, and
House in no different. In fact, it reminds me of ER,
the biggest prime time soap of all time.

Wanna see a good TV series? Watch Californication.
It's vulgar and vile, but damn is it good. You never
know what's going to happen, you love the main
characters. Seen it twice and will do it a third time
for sure. What guy doesn't want to be Hank Moody.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I loved a show in the late 60's called
Name of the Game. It was very hip
and cool and was part of a new thing
called a 'wheel series', 3 different shows
with one 90 min episode alternating
each week. NBC had Columbo, McCloud
and McMillan & Wife in a wheel series
all thru the 70's. I watched them all and
loved them, the quality was outstanding
for the time.

I saw part of Name of the Game on Youtube
and it's unwatchable by today's standards.
Goofy stories, over-acting, really playing up
the hippie dippie period it was made in. At
the time though, these shows were cutting
edge.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Wow, Name of the game. Boy does that show bring back memories. Never missed an episode. Loved it.

Australia has a soap opera called "Home And Away" which began in January 1988. An actor called Ray Meagher has played the character of Alf Stewart the entire time. Only 28 years 7 months but barring an untimely demise I'm sure he'll get to the 3 decade mark.
