I'm confused are you doing a who's on first routine?

"So I throw the ball to first base and Naturally gets it."
"No! You throw the ball to first base-"
"Then who gets it?"
"Naturally!"
"THAT'S WHAT I SAID!"
"You did not."
"I throw the ball to first base-"
"Then Who gets it!"
"HE'D BETTER GET IT!"

It's still uproariously funny.

Wouldn't an eternal god be incapable of dying?

After He appears they burst out of their room and spread the Good News to all the ends of the Earth with a fervor never before seen in history.

And a slowness unmatched by a lazy slug with arthritis on a slow day, seeing as how there is no mention of this outside Judea for years and years after the alleged fact.

"Who's pitching?"
"Now, listen. Who is not pitching. Who is-"
"I'LL BREAK YOUR ARM IF YOU SAY WHO'S ON FIRST!"

You would think so, yes. What is amazing is that God in the incarnate second person of the most Holy Trinity did really and truly die.

What is humdrum and boring is that he was a man who died and has remained dead since then.

But there's no profit in that, is there?

"The pitcher's name?"
"Tomorrow"
"You don't want to tell me today?"
"I'm telling you, man!"
"So tell me."
"Tomorrow."
"What time?"
"What time what?"
"What time tomorrow are you going to tell me who's pitching?"
"Now, listen. Who is not pitching. Who is on--
"I'LL BREAK YOUR ARM IF YOU SAY WHO'S ON FIRST!"
"Now, don't get excited."
"I just want to know what's the pitcher's name!"
"What's on second."
"STAY OUT OF THE INFIELD!"

Do you really think this is more likely than the first scenario?

Neither are likely. What probably happened
was, if the body was put in a tomb, it was
later moved and an urban myth popped
up that later snowballed into the thing you
see in the NT. That is, if there was a body
at all. The real stories behind almost anything
are usually so boring it would put you to sleep.
You can't find a single true event in the Old
West, for instance, that hasn't been mythasized
all out of proportion to what really happened.
And that happened within living memory of
people who were there.

Yet you want to believe that people who lived
in a time of verbal tradition, in a time of extreme
superstition, didn't take every aspect of whatever
Jesus story there was and blow it so out of
proportion to what little really happened, so as
to become unrecognizable to anybody who was
really there. Of course they did, all societies do
it.

Now you'll drag out the tired old saw that god would
never allow that to happen. And I'll have a good laugh
over it.

You know, I believe there was a lot more criticism of the biblical events and stories at the time which was conveniently left out.

Just look how much Evenbob or Nareed can manage all on their own. You know people were winking at each other when some of these stories were told, and likely the best comments of the critics were left out. This leads me to believe that the followers weren't just naïve, but actually engaged in the deception of people by not being fair to criticism that was likely quite vocal many times.

The real story of Christianity is probably 30 percent missing skepticism of the time.

You think they were winking at each other between the times they were being stoned to death, ostracized from the community, or being fed to lions? That is really taking a made up story a little too far, wouldn't you agree?

No one was fed to the lions in Judea, where winking, grinning and elbowing would have taken place. That happened in Rome years and years after the "fact."

The one who's really laughing it up is Jehovah. One can picture him among the angels telling them stories "..and then I said 'snip off your thing for me.' And they're doing it!"

It's not outside the realm of possibility that the whole thing was made up. But it's far more likely that one or two people imagined they saw Jesus risen from the dead, then others began claiming the same delusion, and then it spread among his followers and perhaps a few others outside their circle. This is not an uncommon pattern when UFOS, ghosts, apparitions, Yetis, etc. are concerned.

Or do you think all other myths and legends are made up by committee?

"I just want to know what's the guy's name on first base."
"What's on second."
"I'm not asking you who's on second!"
"Who's on first."
"I don't know."
"He's on third. We're not talking about him."
"How did I get on third base?"

This has happened countless times in
history. A rumor spreads as fact very
quickly and takes on a life of it's own.

Look at the Cardiff Giant story. A rich
man in the eastern US, who was an
atheist, knew that local Christians
believed that giants once roamed the
earth, the Bible says so. So he had a
fake giant built and pretended to find
it on his property while digging a well.
This was about 1870.

The Christians went bonkers, they paid
to see it in droves. It was debunked as
a hoax a couple months later, and it made
national news. But it didn't matter, the
giant was taken on tour and Christians
still flocked to see it and paid an admission
fee knowing it was a fake. They wanted so
much to believe, they pretended the hoax
was a hoax. Never under estimate just how
daffy true believers really are.

If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I bet a critic once saw Jesus stub his toe and hop around in pain, and just smiled later on when he heard his lunatic followers going on about him being the son of god.

I imagine Jesus stubbed His toe. Does that mean He was not the Son of God?
