In an effort to prevent Hollywood studios from engaging in age discrimination while hiring actors, the California state legislature passed a bill requiring online databases (IMDb being the most well-known) to remove an actor's age if the actor demands it. Newspapers, magazines, Wikipedia, Google, & industry trade publications (for example Variety) are exempt from the law.

In a commendable attempt to make a fool of himself, Governor Jerry Brown was dumb enough to sign the bill into law. Presumably Hollywood producers will never figure out how to use Wikipedia or Google to determine if an actor is too old to play a character in high school.

Despite heavy lobbying by Brown, the State Senate was one vote short of passing a similar bill requiring IMDb to remove an actor's race and gender.

CA is a looney bin and Brown has always been a kook. Seems like the first court case knocks it down.

Isn't that the kind of law that can be struck down by easily because it's blatantly unconstitutional?

Yes.

Much like banning an entire religion from being able to enter the country, this law will not hold up to much scrutiny.

Not really. You have no right to enter the USA as a non citizen. But freedom of the press is in the Bill of Rights.

What are you even talking about?

Who mentioned non-citizens?

There are plenty of U.S. citizens of every single religion who leave the country for a whole multitude of reasons and then re-enter.

You know, using The Big Bang Theory's Stardom Postulate(1), TV stars are not affected by this law (not if we take the thread's title to be definitive).

TBBT Stardom's Postulate:

Penny: The plan was to waitress for six months and then become a movie star.
Leonard: Do you have a backup plan?
Penny: TV star.

(1) I'm sure that's the wrong term.

It is related to "postular" in Spanish. In English it mean "a request, demand," in the 16th century.
Today it refers to something that is often assumed without question. A more mathematical word is "axiom". For example in geometry we say two lines in a plane either interect either zero or one time.

I don't see anything wrong with using the word here. In this case Penny just assumes that she will become a star someday. The details of which kind and how she will get there have to fit around the basic assumption.

It's a very ironic storyline in TBBT because both Jonny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco have been TV stars since a very young age.

It's a take on the titles of regular TBBT episodes, like "The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis."

There's a lot of self-referential humor on TV about TV's second-class status compared to movies. I think some of it has to do with typecasting.

Pinky: Brain, who are those people reading in front of the microphones?
Brain: Those are the actors, Pinky.
Pinky: And who are those people in the corner no one's paying attention to?
Brain: They're the writers.

Ok, but that was about radio...

Well, you did. Because you cannot ban citizen from entering the USA. So your statement would only apply to non-citizens. Nor has anyone even proposed banning citizens from re-entering. While they may be red-flagged if they visit a high-risk area, Americans can pretty much travel anywhere and re-enter.
