Kathleen Turner was also a bit young to be playing a woman who was going to her 25 year high school reunion. Since she went back in time and the story would not have had the same emotional impact if the part was played by two actresses, they basically split the difference.

Turner began to suffer from rheumatoid arthritis in her late 30's after which she never could play that role.
