My friend bought a new 1967 SS 396 Malibu with 4 on the
floor and a dual feed Holly carb. He liked to give people rides
and pin them in their seats from the G force thru 3rd gear, then
get rubber when he shifted into 4th. In the late 60's you couldn't
avoid impromptu road races if you had a car like this. It took him
all summer to lose his license, and the car.

I started on a '93 Subaru Legacy lol. Managed to rack up 13 points before my license got yanked. The State limit is 11, but I got 'em so fast they couldn't get to me before I plunked 2 more on it ><

Maybe it's better that Pops sold the '72 'Cuda before I got my hands on it ;)

Harold Lewis had a '66 SS396, he gave me and my friend Fred a ride in it... Scared the hell out of us. About 6 months later he died in a wreck, probably showing off, he was never very bright. That was probably 1973 or so.

Pre '93 Saab 900, the only car I've ever really liked.
Yeah, I'm picky about cars. Like most things . . . :)

Yup. The first time I rode in the SS it scared me so bad
I can still vividly remember it 45 years later. Being stuck
to my seat by the G's, the roar of the carb as it sucked in air,
the feeling of the unbelievable power of the car. I wanted
one real bad...

With all due respect to the real list, just behind the F40 in my book is the Man that was beat, the Porsche 959 195mph OOB with 4-wheel drive. Racing has changed forever due to this car.

Ariel Atom 4TW, I mean it even looks F1. Even at 100Long what a bargain.

EDIT:
I searched around a bit looking for something to back my claim as Atom = WINNER.
I have decided to submit this.

"I am an alien!" is just stupid sick over-the-top... or IS IT???

Whenever you speak of the F40, the 959 is never far behind. And I woulda got away with it, too, if not for you pesky kid! ;)

Porsche's are a marvel of engineering. How they can make a car perform the way they do with the engine in the wrong place is something to behold. But Porsche, more than any other brand, is so polarizing. There's rarely a man who will say "meh" to a Porsche. You either love them or hate them.

I tend to follow the Clarkson Bible. The engine's in the wrong place, every one looks the same, and they look "like a turbo charged Beetle with a spoiler". The 959, to me, is one of the god awful ugliest supercars that's ever been made. They look like a baby whose diaper needed changing 5 days ago. What's up with the ass on that thing?

I'll give it a respectful nod purely on the engineering genious that went into it and what it meant to the future of motorsports. But even though supercars are cartoonish, fantasy, and not to be taken too seriously, the level of seriousness to which I cannot take the 959 is off the charts. It looks like a mistake, and I'm not sure if it's legend is enhanced because of it, or in spite of it.
