Best part of Thanksgiving is the Detroit game...

Amen. I won $400 on it.

Nuttin' like one of those two yearly opportunities to see your drunk Uncle Bob! Remember, he "speaks his mInd" (a fantastic virtue also ascribed to a recently famous figure), which ever since you were a kid, made you force down your turkey as quickly as humanly possible. And Mom thought it was because you liked her cooking.

Dad would drink more than you had ever seen him drink before. Uncle Bob would do the same, though he would have a head start as he would show up half snockered already. Between then and when he inevitably passed out on the couch (an agreed-upon signal for everyone to get a second piece of mince pie), you would hear his ineffable wisdom on what was wrong with this lousy country and how we could fix everything just by getting rid of "THEM." (Who "they" were varied from year to year.)

I personally am not much for holidays. I wish everyone--even those who voted for ACK GAG BARF CHOKE ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK, uh, everyone a happy December 14th, January 9th, March 28th, and every other day that isn't set apart and mass-merchandised to be one of those days when we pretend that we can stand one another. Be a decent human being whether or not the calendar or antiquated custom tells you to. Alternatively, Uncle Bob is coming for Christmas, too, so remember your Second Amendment rights.

Oh, and 1/3 of the Pilgrim settlement died as a direct result of the first Thanksgiving...

If you think there is a single such sense of humor ("the" progressive sense blah blah), then you're a fine example of THE right-wing narrow mindset. You don't know what or how progressives think or act if you make such a stupid and broad generalization.

Hint, oh right-wing one: I was making a funny. Don't interpret EVERYTHING as political (a common flaw in the way righties perceive the world).

I walked into the casino Thursday just as
Detroit kicked the field goal. A thunderous
roar from the crowd, the Lions are having
a good year.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

1957 Lions won it all by routing Cleveland 59-14. No Bobby Lane, broke his ankle in earlier game against the Brown. Tobin Rote was QB that day. Lions have never been in a NFL championship game ( AKA SUPER BOWL ) since.

The Lions have won one playoff game since. If I'd known it was going to be 25 years waiting for the next one, I'd have used my time more carefully.
