What goes around comes around. Like if the retiring Supremes could manage to hang on to the last 14 months or so, Dems can claim we should wait until next presidential election. Except that won't happen because Republicans have no real values either. You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really? |

I fully expect that to happen if they want to and can hang on. I'm not wishing ill on anyone; it is just that there is a group of them getting on in age. The Senate rules have been tossed out the window along with the ability to actually legislate. What happens now is that the majority pretty much moves without bothering to involve the minority in all too many cases. |

Hey, if O'Keefe gets rid of dummies I'm fine with it. It won't stop the investigation of Trump. He didn't have much luck with Planned Parenthood, except in the imagination of a few. You should be mortified to know so little about your own country. It takes 51 votes in the Senate to pass any bill. It takes 60 votes to end debate and vote on the bill. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

That only works if one them kicks the bucket or quits in an election year. They won't wait till 2020, that's 2 1/2 year away. One or two of them will be gone by then. They really blew it thinking Hillary would win and they waited to resign. Why do these old fogies all think they can still do a good job into their 80's, nobody else can in other jobs. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Chuckie said it; I didn't...but he is correct in stating that it does not take 60 votes to end debate and pass this bill. This bill is being done under the reconciliation process. Since budgets needs to be passed, they are not subject to the same rules as other bills. The reconciliation process was also used to pass Obamacare when the Democrats lost the 60th vote (Kennedy) and a Republican filled that slot. Here is the title of the reconciliation bill: "H. R. 1628 To provide for reconciliation pursuant to title II of the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2017." It also does not take 60 votes or 50 votes for cloture and passage. It takes three-fifths of sworn members in the first case and a majority of those voting in the second. Thanks for your time! |
