We had it slightly wrong: he wanted to win, he just didn't want to be president. That is to say, he has no interest in policy or legislation, no knowledge of hos the legislative process works or any inclination to learn. Logically he should now want to resign. I don't think he will. First he'll want to get re-elected more (he might resign right after the 2020 election if, Jove forbid, he wins). Second, he knows full well all he's done that could land him in prison, and also has deluded himself into believing he can pardon himself. So he wont' resign until either 1) he can quash the Mueller probe or 2) he can attempt to pardon himself for something really heinous. On another related topic, it would seem Congress, especially the GOP wing, as well as certain cabinet officers like Mattis and Tillerson, are trying to work around the Douchebag in Chief. But it's just as plain they're tired of him. if the GOP does realize large enough losses in the 2018 midterms, whether they lose control of Congress or not(*), they may be more amenable to impeachment and removal.
