Sam Sheppard died about 2 weeks ago. He was
great in The Right Stuff, Black Hawk Down, and
dozens of other films. He's best remembered
for playing pilot Chuck Yeager. I saw him in
a movie that was on Nflix for awhile called
Blackthorne, He played an old Butch Cassidy,
who had survived the shootout in Bolivia.
An excellent movie, saw it 3 times.

He died of a heart attack at 73.

Jerry Lewis @91
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

He hasn't looked all that good for years.

Dick Gregory. I remember when he was hugely
fat, like Al Sharpton and then lost all the weight.
Like Sharpton.

Jerry Lewis @91

When Lewis and Martin split in the mid 50's,
everybody said it was over for Dean, and Jerry
would be the big star. But Dean was the one
who hit it big, movies, music, and a huge
TV show in the late 60's into the 70's. Jerry had
some big movies but disappeared in the late
60's.

Lewis was a comic genius but he was insufferable
to be around in his 20's and 30's. Martin quit because
he got sick of Jerry always wanting things his way.
Dean was the most easy going guy in the world, but
when he was done with you, he was done.

Jerry Lewis needed Martin to ground him and I loved him as a kid. Once they split up he was never as good. Once he started directing his own movies he was so over the top that he wasn't even funny. Like watching a 3 year old have tantrum. Even though I was only 9 when they split I never really enjoyed Lewis on his own and quit watching his movies after a couple of years. It was sort of like Lucile Ball with Desi. Both Lewis and Ball needed someone to ground them to stay funny.

It wasn't that Lewis wasn't funny in his
movies, he was getting too old to
play a kooky kid. His films made a
lot of money in the 60's, though.

I don't think he played to the USA sense of humor. French loved him far more than Americans. I remember one movie of his, "Cracking Up" straight to HBO in the 1980s in the USA. A few funny parts, but mostly even as a kid I was not into it.

But at the age of 56 he turned in a brilliant performance.
