I've never been sure of how teens are
harmed by porn, exactly. How is seeing
people screwing bad for you. I was a
teen in the early 60's, I found plenty
of porn just by asking around and it
made my happy, not sad. Banning
violence I get, porn is harmless. In
fact, seeing porn made me better at
sex in the beginning, I knew exactly
what to do.
Some people abuse porn just like anything else so then big brother/government steps in to rescue everyone else. Same old story they can't leave people to themselves.

I'm not for the regulation but I can see where porn causes problems. Almost everyone indulges a little, but more and more people think what you see on screen is normal and behave as such. Some guys eventually prefer porn to a woman.

Further thoughts -

States can tax cigarettes, they can tax alcohol, so maybe it is OK for them to tax porn.

Prostitutes working at Nevada's legal brothels must file 1099s, just like the rest of us. The State of Colorado taxes recreational marijuana.

Somehow I don't think that we will see the conservatives decry this as a "cash grab" like they do with the taxes that they do not like.

Funny, I do not see liberals supporting it like they do taxes they do like.

So must drug dealers, bank robbers and pick
pockets. IRS doesn't care where the money
comes from. Al Capone went to jail for not filing
taxes on selling illegal booze.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Government pretty much taxes everything. Name one thing not subject to direct or indirect taxes.

Bus special taxes, often called "sin taxes," are problematic for porn. There's no question of what is a cigarette or what is alcohol.

What is porn?

"I know it when I see it" remains a really poor standard.

Back in the 80s my brother had an SI subscription delivered at the office. I recall reading tons of letters decrying the "porn" in the swimsuit issue. these days SI publishes pictures of models in skin paint.

It shows how hypocritical both parties are.

I believe the current movie rating system would do a pretty good job of identifying porn. There are always going to be things on the boundaries, but it is usually pretty easy to tell for things that are beyond them.

Porn can be a huge problem for many people. The government is not the solution as always.
