It is now 82 weeks since Trump announced his candidacy. In that time the Mexican peso dropped from 15.39 pesos to the dollar to 21.84 pesos to the dollar (a change of 42%). In the same period the dollar gained 6.5% on the Euro and 7.5% on the Canadian dollar.

Now the exchange rate is certainly not dependent on the actions of one man, but you have to think that DJT was probably the biggest single influence on the collapse of the Mexican peso. Gasoline riots are starting to tear through the country.

It's seems as if all this talk about a wall has created a situation where we really need a wall more than ever.

why do international currencies respond to mere political rhetoric ... ain't gonna be no wall, ain't gonna be no muslim registry, ain't gonna be no big Trump sign on the whitehouse. Mexican gasoline supplies and prices are hardly controlled by anyone who isn't Mexican.

Gasoline prices are almost entirely controlled by international entities. While a 42% drop in the value of a currency relative to the USD may not radically affect the price of tacos, it is going to have a huge effect on gasoline prices.

The peso crisis of 1994 was a 50% drop in a matter of months. Almost one third of the business closed. President Clinton took radical steps to help stabilize the Mexican currency as he was afraid that the crisis would bring unprecedented number of immigrants into the USA. While this crisis is not nearly on the scale of that in 1994, the pressure on immigration will still be considerable.

Only if we can get the U.S. to pay for it.

Oh, wait.

A wall will cost less than what the gov't
now pays for Obamacare in one year.
And when it's built, it's done. We don't
to build it again. We have a heroin crisis
in this country and it's all coming across
the southern border.

John Kelly knows a wall by itself won't work.

“A physical barrier in and of itself will not do the job,” Kelly told the committee, adding he was in favor of “layered defense” that used technological assets including drones.

Everyone knows that. Wall a first step on southern border. Even Mexico has one.
The President is a fink.

It looks like what Bob is saying is that "once it is built it is done" and no other expenses, ongoing or otherwise, are required.

No. Once the wall is done, you don't
have to build another one next year.
The wall is the start of the border
security, it's not the end. Walls work,
that's a fact. The Chinese figured that
out millennia ago.

How tall do you need to build a wall to stop airliners?

And what about those long, long, long stretches of coastline? How does a border wall work with them?
