Let the whining and gnashing of teeth begin.
This is great news, wait till he wades in and
really starts draining that smelly swamp.

President Trump Freezes Federal Hiring

"President Trump has signed an executive order freezing federal hiring. That’s just the beginning. After the freeze on hiring is going to come the whittling of the federal employee workforce. Trump also signed a notice that starts the process of withdrawing from the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal. But the freeze on federal hiring excludes national security and military people, but it’s part of the Trump 100-day Action Plan to Make America Great Again."

Very good moves on his part. The media will make it out like federal employees are not getting any raise, but they are probably going to get their yearly "step" raise, just that the steps will not go up in salary. IOW, a 6 year employee this year will make the same as a 6 year employee last year but more than they made as a 5 year employee last year. Boo hoo hoo.

He has the auto companies running scared, FCA halted new investment in Mexico until they get a better idea where NAFTA will end up. Which is awesome, Fiat was given Chrysler so how about keeping the profits in the USA?

Whittling government in the name of cost savings, likely makes work results even poorer. If you reduce your taxi fleet without considering your number of customers how does that improve things? (in the case of taxis, it just makes your competitor happier, but there are no alternate government workers)

Now if they do it after a thorough analysis of the individual situations, it might make sense.

Nonsense. "Analyze" how many government workers you need and you will always be told you can't cut or even need more. Trump comes from the real world where you can't just print the money you need and you often have to cut workers to stay within your budget. So the managers down the line use their smarts to figure out how to get the job done.

About time government has to figure out how to do more with less, like they ask us to do.

When you're in a government department, you already constrained by an annual budget. You can't just print money and hire more people. You have some imagination.

And a proper analysis is done by someone independent from the organization.

You seem to be a bit clueless. Most government departments have to deal with shortages of personal at different times anyway. You can make requests all day, if there is no funding or personell you deal with it.

Let's see. He raised the cost of mortgage borrowing on the poor, and lowered the cost of Obamacare for the rich.

Reducing the day-to-day civil servants isn't draining the swamp. The swamp is not that bureaucracy. The swamp is the lobbyists and vested interests and the money machine at the top levels. That's the swamp that I thought was about to be drained.

A hiring freeze and a reassessment of all departments is often the MO in a takeover.

Reducing government size is not really a surprise outcome with a populist Republican win.

Most government down-scaling I've seen is always at the sharp end of services to those who need them most, and never at the blunt end. I know many people at the sharp end who are strained to the extreme after cuts. If it has to happen, it's the decisions made down stream that will show the colours of this administration.

No, he priced mortgages more properly for the risk.

The Fed prints money and buys government bonds. Budgets are NEVER cut, baseline budgeting guarantees a built-in increase every year. The real world does not work that way.

No need for analysis paralysis. Last thing we need is an outside study that would take a lifetime to complete given the size of government. Smart managers will figure it out, just like managers in the real world are forced to do.

Trump did what good leaders do--he acted. Obama was so incompetent waiting for studies it took him years to decide on a simple pipeline. Hopefully Trump reverses that bonehead sellout to the enviro-nuts.
