Donald is too.

Perhaps bitter and mean spirited is what this country wants at this time?

Donald is President because he overperformed in the rust belt states. Al Franken would be a strong candidate for Dems in the rust belt states.

I hope the Dems pick someone more unlike Trump than like Trump.
Why do you think Franken would do well in the rust belt states?

Al Franken would be eaten alive in the primaries and even more so in the general election. I hope. I've nothing against him, but he was very acerbic in his political humor in the late 90s, displaying a near Trump-like level of scorn for his political enemies. Oh, it was funny, but wholly undignified. I read two of his books because my brother had them at the office back when.

I predict any Democrat with even a 0.000000000000000001% chance of being recognized by ten random people on the street will want to run in 2020. Those who can get the money will do so.

That's actually a very good question. I assume being from Minnesota and having a more populist stance than some Dems would help him in the rust belt.

Because he's good enough, he's smart enough and dogonit people like him.
The mind hungers for that on which it feeds.

Franken comes across as a smarmy smartass
elitist, about as far from a people person as
you can get. He oozes sarcasm and superiority,
he really can't help himself. He even has the
look on his face most of time, of a preppy
spoiled Ivy League prick. He would be in last
place in every presidential poll.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

You could be right (there is a first time for everything...).

I have no idea who the Dems will pick for 2020 (I do know it won't be Hillary, as much as the righties love to speculate about that).

You never heard his show on Airhead
America? He was solid preppy sarcasm,
non ending, for hours. It wasn't funny,
it was childish. He's the most intelligent
person in any room and lets you know
it every 5 sec or so.

Well, it won't matter. Assuming that Trump is still in office in 2020 (far from a certainty), they could run a dead cat against him and still score a crushing win. Imagine all the scandals and blunders of the last four weeks multiplied fifty-fold.

A lot will depend on the state of the economy in 2020. Bush the elder seemed invincible in 1991, but one mild recession buried his career.

And if Clinton runs again, she's almost certain to lose again.

That's exactly what was said during the
campaign. They even had a scandal
video and whole parade of victimized
women they trotted out. What they
have in 2020 won't come close to any
of that. The biggest problem the Left
has is they don't even have a dead cat,
they have Fauxcahantas. And she has
as much crowd appeal as Hillary did.
