AFAIK the May 2018 date is unchanged. Tony Gilroy reportedly made more than $5 million to do extensive rewrites of Rogue One to "lighten up" the script. RON HOWARD reportedly earns $10 million for directing "THE Dilemma". His one mega boxoffice film was ranked #77, while Rogue One was ranked #22. Worldwide (Unadjusted)

Yes. They're gonna try really hard to finish it in time for that May 2018 date. Disney is releasing Mary Poppins Returns for Christmas 2018 and expects that to be a huge hit. They don't want to open a Star Wars movie a week before and have it steal Mary's thunder... Ron Howard has been filming for almost a month now. He's been tweeting lots of pics from the set. I wonder how much money they threw at this to try to steady the ship... “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

Nolan was paid $20 million upfront plus 20 percent of the gross for Dunkirk. Peter Jackson also got $20 million for his King Kong movie (released back in 2005). Disney is much more reluctant to give points, so I imagine Ron Howard is being paid $20 million and no points. If you think about it, Rogue One had box office of $532 domestically and $524 million internationally, plus a fortune in tie ins and subsequent DVD sales and streaming fees. Bad direction could easily cost hundreds of millions of dollars. |

I actually think this is great news. The fanboys (myself included) were never happy with him as the choice for Episode 9... “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

That wouldn't surprise me at all.... I've heard it again and again: LucasFilm loves how The Last Jedi turned out. “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

Me either. Looper was excellent though. And he directed some episodes of Breaking Bad as well... “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |
