Saw it. No one will accuse this one of being a quasi-remake of one of the earlier ones!

I think I prefer The Force Awakens, but there is still a lot to love here.

One scene made me cheer so loud I think I scared the guy next to me. Lots of crowd pleasing moments.

Only five movies with worldwide opening over $400 million. I assume this will be the 5th
The Fate of the Furious Uni. $541.9 2017
Star Wars: The Force Awakens BV $529.0 2015
Jurassic World Uni. $525.5 2015
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 WB $483.2 2011
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice WB $422.5 2016

Only 16 bad reviews (2 in Spanish) out of 244 worldwide

1) Sam C. Mac : Slant Magazine December 12, 2017
2) Donald Clarke: Irish Times December 12, 2017
3) Ed Whitfield : The Ooh Tray December 14, 2017
4) Roger Moore : Movie Nation December 12, 2017
5) Avi Offer : NYC Movie Guru December 14, 2017
6) Christian Toto : HollywoodInToto.com December 12, 2017
7) Charles Koplinski : Illinois Times December 14, 2017
8) Richard Brody: New Yorker December 12, 2017- The movie comes off as a work that's ironed out, flattened down, appallingly purified.
9) Kyle Smith: National Review December 12, 2017- So many elements in Episode VIII are recycled that it could have been called Rerun of the Jedi.
10) Rubin Safaya : Cinemalogue.com December 12, 2017 - While the central story concept of THE LAST JEDI, Luke's Dharmic apotheosis and Rey's Gnostic enlightenment, is a brilliant one, it's hounded by lopsided execution and a ham-fisted subplot...
11) Kate Taylor : Globe and Mail December 12, 2017 - But gradually, Johnson's many additions become too much of a good thing and The Last Jedi grows crowded, busy and long.
12) Fred Topel : We Live Entertainment December 12, 2017 - Every moment where The Last Jedi almost takes a bold risk for the series, it undermines itself to maintain the status quo.
13) Ray Greene: CineGods.com December 12, 2017 - That's a lot of movie. Like a LOT of movie. So much movie, I think my engorged eyeballs had to stick a finger down their throats and vomit out a couple of epic battle scenes just so they could get through the finale.
14) Luke Buckmaster : The Daily Review/Crikey December 14, 2017 - It's easy to forget the original movie was a terrifically bold, innovative, industry-realigning blockbuster. Lucas dreamed big and took massive risks. In that sense, The Last Jedi could not be more different to the Star Wars created four decades ago.

15) Carlos Boyero : El Pais (Spain) December 12, 2017
16) Iván Belmont : Konexión December 14, 2017

The movie seems to be really dividing fans.

Some loved it while some are claiming Disney has ruined their childhood or some nonsense like that. I saw one person call Rotten Tomatoes "fake news." (Lol)

I can absolutely see why people are divided, thankfully I am on the positive side with this one.

According to my calculations, and barring unexpected traffic snarls, i should be able to make it to the 8:45 pm showing even if work lets out at a regular time.

The odds of a meteorite messing up traffic in or around Interlomas and Lomas Anahuac are sky high, according to Murphy's Law ;)

It's all up to the meteorite traffic :)

I found the old VIP theater nearby is almost deserted. Last time I bought a ticket in advance, only to find myself alone in the lower section the whole movie.

Maybe I'll go for a second showing to the new VIP theater, same chain, a mile further out.

Turns out the very first "spoiler" I heard ages ago about The Last Jedi (that I mentioned in the post below) turned out to be right on the money:

I just saw it.

I'm trying to figure out what the bleeding hell I just saw :)

Kylo kind of let slip the theme for the next episode

I saw it again last night and noticed a hefty bit of foreshadowing.

The first time Rey and Kylo are connected telepathically, he says "You're not doing this, the effort would kill you." Kinda sets up the resolution of his "showdown" with Luke at the end.

  3. $1,405.4 Avengers: Age of Ultron
  4. $1,276.5 Frozen
  5. $1,263.5 Beauty and the Beast (2017)
  6. $1,214.8 Iron Man 3
  7. $1,153.3 Captain America: Civil War
  8. $1,067.0 Toy Story 3
  9. $1,066.2 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
  10. $1,056.1 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
  11. $1,045.7 Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
  12. $1,028.6 Finding Dory
  13. $1,025.5 Alice in Wonderland (2010)
