Mueller's investigation can take years to unfold.

Keep this in mind at all times, as Golden Boy won't likely face impeachment any time soon. It's likely he'll last into the mid-term elections. What effect the Mueller probe will have on the results is hard to predict, but it may as well sink the GOP in the polls. There's that to look forward to.

Odds that Trump will resign are low. Odds that his cabinet will stage a 25th amendment coup are even lower (though they really, really should), unless he's incapacitated in some way.

Probably, but not necessarily.

Quote: National Review
The FBI (and other intelligence agencies) have been investigating the Russia counterintelligence matter for nearly a year, and a great deal of work has already been done on it. I imagine there is a chance it could be wrapped up within a few months — Mueller is a quick study and a hard worker, it won’t take him long to get up to speed.

What can really slow these investigations down is the prosecution of ancillary criminal cases. If there are none, things can be wrapped up in short order. But if people are indicted, it could go on for years. Mueller is not a Lawrence Walsh type. He will not want to make a career out of this. At the same time, if serious criminal wrongdoing is uncovered, he won’t turn a blind eye.

It's a fascinating story. In that private Oval Office meeting Comey didn't try to stop Trump's conversation about Flynn, because Comey wanted to see if Trump would dig his own hole. And Comey left a meticulous paper trail.

If a colleague or supervisor asks a government employee to break the law, the employee's number one priority is cover his own ass to avoid jailtime, and they do it with a paper trail. That paper trail is called Memo To the File. Comey has a long history of using Memo To the File, and one of the problems of electing a brilliant businessman like Trump is that he's a Washington outsider. As an outsider, Trump has no idea that everyone in government does this.

Quote: The Weekly Standard
But the one thing we do know: The Comey Affair shows just how vulnerable to crippling mistakes are outsiders who aren't practiced in the ways of Washington. And one of the most basic of Washington's ways is the Memo to the File.

The Memo to the File becomes second nature to anyone who has worked as even just a midlevel manager in the federal government.

There's also the matter of what Mueller will find in related issues. Money always plays a big role in high-level investigations. We may find there's nothing tying Golden Boy to Russia, but that he's been evading taxes or violating the emoluments clause even more than anyone thought. Ken Starr wasn't investigating the Paula Jones lawsuit, but an ancillary matter on that was what allowed the House to impeach Bill Clinton.

So we'll see. I'm confident Golden Boy is up past his head in dirty deals that something will shake loose.

LOL!

I hadn't laughed so hard since the last time I read autocorrect failures.

I'm normally not one to spray the forum with links like a fire hose, but this article I found very informative, although nothing in it really surprised me: I wrote ‘The Art of the Deal’ with Trump. His self-sabotage is rooted in his past.

p.s. My comment about links is not meant as a dig at anyone in particular.

It is well written but not really surprising.

Quote: Tony Schwartz
A key part of that story is that facts are whatever Trump deems them to be on any given day. When he is challenged, he instinctively doubles down — even when what he has just said is demonstrably false. I saw that countless times, whether it was as trivial as exaggerating the number of floors at Trump Tower or as consequential as telling me that his casinos were performing well when they were actually going bankrupt. In the same way, Trump sees no contradiction at all in changing his story about why he fired Comey and thereby undermining the statements of his aides, or in any other lie he tells. His aim is never accuracy; it’s domination.

John Oliver expressed the same sentiment, but funnier.

Quote: John Oliver (HBO)
Trump undid two days of damage control in just a few sentences after he sat down for an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt and explained that he had planned to fire Comey all along.

Now, think about what just happened there... Trump is so desperate to appear dominant, he will rush to take the credit for anything, no matter how bad it is. If you wanted him to confess to murder, all a lawyer would have to say is: ‘Your honor, the killer could not have possibly been Donald Trump. It must have been someone much stronger and smarter, with a much hotter daughter.’ And before they finished that sentence, Trump would be yelling: ‘I did it! It was me! Lock me up!’

He did how this off in the campaign nearly every day. He's kept on doing it since he won the election, despite massively losing the popular vote.

Let's see: "Trump couldn't' possible have colluded with Russia. It would take a man with actual brains and testicles to do something that clever."

I'll try it on social media later today.
