I cannot even name the current one, not
decisively. I can guess, but I really have
never paid that much attention to them.
I know he's a rabid socialist from S America
and it colors everything he does. I do know
that much.

Bob, you should really read the news, and not the anti-Catholic fake news you seem to love. With this post you show you don't really know much the sad part is you are utterly convinced you do.

Now trace God's lineage, going back as far as you like, and ending with the one that the pope has over for dinner.

How many Popes can you name, starting with the current one, and going backwards?

I have a poster that lists all of the Popes back to Peter and Jesus. Off hand I could probably name the last 7.

Okay add one more great so you don't have a picture. By the way I can trace every single Pope from Francis in an unbroken line to Peter the Apostle.

Does that mean you can recite the full list of 266 popes?
http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/archivio_papi/documents/elencopapi_it.html

That is pretty impressive, as most of us can't recite the list of 45 Presidents.

(Can be sung to the tune of "Good King Wenceslas")

Willie, Willie, Harry, Stee,
Harry, Dick, John, Harry three;
One, two, three Neds, Richard two
Harrys four, five, six... then who?
Edwards four, five, Dick the bad,
Harrys twain VII VIII and Ned the Lad;
Mary, Bessie, James the Vain,
Charlie, Charlie, James again...
William and Mary, Anna Gloria,
Four Georges I II III IV, William and Victoria;
Edward seven next, and then
George the fifth in 1910;
Ned the eighth soon abdicated
Then George the sixth was coronated;
And if you've not lost your breath
Give a cheer for Elizabeth.

Ned ~ Edward
Stee ~ Steven
Dick ~ Richard
Willie ~ William
Anna ~Anne

Bob it is your exaggerating and vicious negativity that get you in trouble and make it impossible to agree with you. Instead of saying something true like Pope Francis is sympathetic and understanding of many socialist ideas you say blatantly false and derogatory statements like calling him a "rabid socialist" that effects "everything he does" .

I wonder how they deal with the situation whence multiple popes have claimed the papacy. At one time there were three.

I wonder, too, how this impresses the Patriarch at Constantinople.

Wasn't raised Catholic, doubt I will ever convert, but Francis is the Pope of my lifetime. By far the closest embodiment of Christ's true intent as I have ever seen, (not just among Popes, but of all people) and I admire him completely for it.

He is my favorite too. Then again, I'm only familiar with three of them.
