Yup. Here's your new fave pope
dealing with the pedophile crisis
earlier this year:

Report: Pope Francis Refuses To Punish Pedophile Priests

"A new report reveals Pope Francis is quietly making the Catholic church a safe space for pedophile priests.
The Associated Press reports that Pope Francis is reducing sanctions against pedophile priests, and even refusing to defrock priests..

In one particularly egregious case, Francis let off one notorious pedophile priest, Rev. Mauro Inzoli, with just a lifetime of prayer for abusing five young boys.. In other words, no justice for victims, no justice for the children raped and abused by Catholic priests, but mercy for the pedophile priests who rape children."

He is the least favorite among several Catholics I know, because of his liberalism/departure from some conservative orthodoxy.

I'd like to clarify that the Pope's decision not to laicisize,"defrock", or remove a priest from the clerical state is not a civil matter. Such a priest is not in any way protected from the criminal convictions and punishments of his actions. In some ways taking away the priesthood from someone is akin to setting him loose without any further restrictions or oversight. Some look at it as the Church washing their hands of abusive priests and saying it is not longer our problem. It is complicated though because no one wants these men to remain priests and the faithful don't want to have to continue to provide for them during their private life of prayer and penance. Pope Francis is interpreting mercy to be applied to all people and that is never a popular opinion. You might say he is doing something right if he makes both Evenbob and conservative Catholics unhappy.

Little known fact garbage bags in the Vatican are red. Pope Francis is really cleaning up!

But you still understood the intent of the
cartoon. Giving a pedophile priest a
lifetime of prayer as punishment is an
international embarrassment for the
Vatican.

What are you talking about? Any pedophile gets charged with a crime and deserves criminal punishment. Nothing the Pope is doing is stopping such deserved punishment. What he is doing is making sure some of these priests are not unleashed on the world outside of oversight and control of the Church. Would you rather the Pope just kick them out of the priesthood and leave them on their own in the world with no one watching over them?

That's what prisons are for, which is where
they belong. Not doing a lifetime of prayer
as punishment, doing 20 years of hard time
is what they deserve.
