In a letter sent to Academy about Oscar host Seth McFarlane
"From topical jabs about domestic violence to singing about 'boobs' during a film's rape scene, Seth MacFarlane crossed the line from humor to misogyny,"...
"In a world where women have historically faced challenges and obstacles when it comes to their portrayal in popular culture, Sunday evening was a setback for women fighting hard to gain appropriate respect as contributors in this industry and society and general".

If you saw the Academy Awards, Seth McFarlane (producer of the animated series Family Guy) fulfilled his expectations early in the show with a musical chorus accompanied by the Gay Men's Chorus where he sings "We saw your Boobs" and highlights famous topless scenes in movies. Most of the movies mentioned were romances and action films, but among them was "The Accused" where Jodi Foster has her clothes torn off in a violent rape scene.

As expected some younger actresses like Jennifer Lawrence thought the song was funny, while mostly older people were offended.

While most of the time, McFarlane played straight song and dance man in skits that could have been done by Bing Crosby, he periodically through in dark jokes that were either misognyst or misanthropic or simply juvenile. In almost all cases they were clear setups as he had a ready response to the predictable groans.

Unlike Ricky Gervais, his humor, no matter how dark, was generally not aimed at any person in particular (with a few exceptions like Rihanna and Mel Gibson).

Most people who are familiar with his show, found his Oscar presentation rather tame by comparison.

Naomi Watts pre-records a shocked reaction to the mention of her name in "We saw your boobs". The actor next to her is doing a staged look at her.

If you saw the Academy Awards,
I didn't but I understand that for quite some time the emphasis has been on just how daring the ladies dresses will be that night. I understand that double-sided tape if often used, as is hairspray to keep certain fabric more stable. Usually the various starlets seem quite willing to expose breasts or wear dresses that accentuate nipples or cleavage. As with anything "Hollywood", its usually more hype than reality.

The producers of the show are the ones responsible, if they want to blame someone for Gervais or Mcfarland. It's like hiring Carrot Top and then complaining Carrot Top does prop comedy instead of something else.

Now if these hosts show up and do something they're not known for, then it would be something to lay into them for.

Next year it will be Sarah Silverman. (likely never)
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

Seth McFarlane managed to build a $100 million fortune by the age of 40 doing these kind of jokes. He also deliberately offset the juvenile humor with very classic song and dance numbers. He also brought in the younger audience that the Academy craved. Even Neil Patrick Stewart makes gay jokes when he hosts the Tony awards.

Try watching the roasts from the 1970's when Betty White was already been blasted with old age jokes. That was when she in her 50's.

With the "Book of Mormon" coming up on it's 2nd anniversary, it should be time for Trey Parker and Matt Stone to host the Tony awards this summer. NPH has hosted 3 out of the last 4 years. The Tonly's have failed to crack 8 million viewers since 2002. At least Seth McFarlane drew 40.3 million domestic viewers for his hosting of the Oscars which was double what Tina and Amy brought in for Golden Globes.
