I have followed his articles from time to time over the decades. I just read his wiki page and was surprised to hear he was paralyzed from the neck down. He accomplished a lot despite his disability.

Waist down, not neck. He drives his
own modified van with hand controls.
He dived head first into the shallow
end of the Harvard pool when he
was in med school and damaged his
spine.

I had no idea he was in a wheelchair till the 2016 election. I remember Trump said something on the campaign trail that some people interpreted as a swipe at his disability. I was shocked to find out that he was in a wheelchair... he was always just a talking head on TV, how was I supposed to know?

He moves his arms on Fox and there
is video of him driving with hand
controls.

Go to 2:17 in this video, he's driving:
(he moves his arms a lot if you watch
the whole video)

Huge Tony Bourdain fan, seen every
ep of No Reservations 5 times. Can't
believe he hanged himself. He was
totally devoted to his 11 year old
daughter, she was the light of his
life. He was devoted to her.

He announced big plans in 2015
to open Bourdain Market in NYC
at Pier 57. He had millions invested
and it was cancelled 6 months
ago. He had his whole future set
on the this place.

“Yes, it is a for-profit business. Yes, it is his legacy for New York. Yes, it is probably what he will retire on."

Having it cancelled had to devastate
him. It was going to be a world class
giant marketplace that bore his name
well into the future. He thought doing
TV was a stupid way to make living,
he found it easy and effortless so he
had no respect for it. The market was
going to be his legacy.

I gotta say, Tony, there is no forgiveness
for what you've done to your daughter.
You adored her and doted on her and
now you've ruined the rest of her life.
Way to go jackass, much as I liked your
TV shows, any respect I had for you has
been wiped out.

Krauthammer is classified as a quadrapeligic, even though he has some use of his hands.

Hands and arms. He often gestures
with his arms on Fox, and moves
his whole body to different positions.
I've seen him on a keyboard, can't do that
if you can't move your arms.

Both you and Flea are correct. Depending on which bone is broken in the neck C1, C2.... C7.... and if the spinal cord is destroyed there or some lesser injury will determine your disability level. He was likely a C6 or C7 injury and had limited use of his arms, not no use. But it is a VERY hard life.

As far as Bourdain, I too can't fathom suicide when you have an 11 year old.

One of my best friends recently dove head first into the shallow end of my pool. He came up a bloody mess but no serious damages. All he needed was a few stitches. He was very fortunate.

More than a few people have gotten spinal injuries that way. All public pools have to have markers for footage, just for that reason.

Reminds me, all motels, some year or other did away with the diving boards. Probably due to potential lawsuits no doubt. I used to look forward to the diving boards when I was a kid when my family stopped at a motel.
