That is correct. Nor is either Lara Croft
films chick flicks. Just because the woman
is in the lead, doesn't make it so.

Are you arguing that Mel Gibson is a woman?

It was about a mans influence over
women, it's wasn't about a bunch
of women with a man off in the
distance somewhere.

The best thing going for Ocean's 8 is a cameo by Marlo Thomas:

80 year old Marlo Thomas.
Not exactly Jane Fonda..

Ocean's 8 stars blame dominance of male critics for film's mixed reviews

Dem wascally wite males and their mixed weviews!

Well, this is a slash in the balance towards "chick flick." If a star is saying white male critics are a problem, the movie is just not mainstream, is it?

One more thing we can blame on rotten tomatoes. You can obviously tell the middle age white guy bias. They have an agenda and it pushes ticket sales.

Rotten Tomatoes
87% Strait Outta Compton (10,269,500 tickets in first week)
70% Ocean's 13 (7,370,000 tickets in first week)
68% Ocean's 8 (6,508,800 tickets in first week)

There was not a single actress among the five principals for Strait Outta Compton.
Corey Hawkins
Aldis Hodge
O'Shea Jackson
Jason Mitchell
Lakeith Stanfield

There was only a single actress among the eleven principals for Ocean's Thirteen
George Clooney
Brad Pitt
Matt Damon
Andy Garcia
Don Cheadle
Bernie Mac
Casey Affleck
Scott Caan
Carl Reiner
Elliott Gould
Al Pacino
Ellen Barkin

I realized it in the 70's, women in
movies are boring, even to other
women. Women in real life are
generally boring. I've heard many
women admit it.

It's still a mans world, men have the
dangerous jobs, the glamorous
and exciting jobs. Watching a woman
act like a man in a movie just looks
dumb.

Ever see 'Salt'? O my god. She weighs
100 pounds and beats up entire rooms
of men twice her size. The first thing
they taught us in self defense class
was, no matter how good you are, if
your opponent is substantially bigger,
he will probably win. An SUV will always
beat a VW bug.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Saw it and hated it. The premise was silly, but all the stunts were awful. It just did not fit.

Let women act like women. An example would be Sandra Bullock in "The Blind Side." That was a woman acting like a woman, and it worked. Not a movie I will watch again, but I did enjoy all but that last 10 minutes, which felt tacked on. But she played a good part.

In training, you are always paired off
with a person your size. Just like
you never see a bantam boxer fight
a heavyweight.

Yet in the movies, self defense
is used constantly to show one
small person beating not only
people far larger, but whole
squads of them. And the audience
thinks, sure, you could do that
with training.
Only if you're from Krypton. Run,
that's what we were taught. Defend
yourself and run.

It was in one of those chain emails 20 years ago. In a movie, 5 guys attack one guy, but they do it *one at a time* so he can fight them off one by one. IRL, a group of guys would attack another all at once, and it would be over in seconds.
