Funny, I knew immediately it was the one where Kirk beams to a deserted Enterprise, and I haven't seen the ep in 35 years. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Sometimes they seem to pull an episode for various reasons. Could be the background music went out of license, there is an "Airwolf" where I think this is the case. Or there is the MASH "Point of View" episode, shows you the view of a wounded soldier. I saw that one once and only once that I recall. It is interesting, but not very entertaining. The President is a fink. |

A "bottle episode" is a cheap-to-film episode to get the show back on budget. Here's the Wikipedia article. |

Thanks, Chester. I've never heard of that. Never doubt a small group of concerned citizens can change the world; it's the only thing ever has |

The article mentions three "bottle episodes" that have become popular. "The Mark of Gideon" is not one of them. One of the most famous "bottle episodes" was the "Chinese Restaurant" episode of Seinfeld (Broadcast date: 23 May 1991). The Guest Stars have almost no lines, and there are no scene changes. Kramer is absent (his only show he missed): James Hong....................... Bruce David Tress...................... Mr. Cohen Judy Kain........................ Lorraine Kate Benton...................... Woman on Phone (also in The Pez Dispenser) Michael Mitz..................... Man on Phone (also in The Puffy Shirt) Kendall McCarthy................. Man Restaurant Manager (Bruce): How many? Bruce: Four. It'll be five, ten minutes.(guy on phone just turns the other way without answering) Bruce: Lashbrook(sp?), 4! Man: Oh, Excuse me. Bruce: What's your name?(Bruce starts talking to a Chinese woman in Chinese) Bruce: No, no, they were here before. Keckitch(sp?), 2!(as George reaches for the phone, a woman snatches it and starts dialing) Woman at phone: Where? I didn't see you. Woman: Well I won't be long. Woman: Well if you were here first, you'd be holding the phone.(guy on phone approaches George) Guy: Hey, sorry I took so long. Mr. Cohen: Hey, what stinks in here? Mr. Cohen: Well, I've been looking for a better place.(Bruce laughs) Bruce: Better place... Want a table? Mr. Cohen: No, just bring me a plate and I'll eat here. Bruce (laughing): Give him a plate and you eat here... Come on, I give you a table. Bruce: Oh no, Mr. Cohen always here. Bruce: Oh, Mr. Cohen, very nice man. He live on Park Avenue.(woman in stripes approaches Jerry) Lorraine: Hello, Jerry! Lorraine: How is everything? Lorraine: Oh, working hard. And you? Lorraine: You haven't been around in a while. Lorraine: You should come by. Lorraine (shaking her hand): Lorraine. Catalano. Lorraine: Well it was nice seeing you, Jerry. And nice meeting you. (she leaves) Bruce: What is your name? (he turns the page over the money) Bruce: Yes, we have sea-bass dinner tonight, very fresh.(Bruce shrugs and takes it) Bruce: Dennison, 4! (goes over to 4 ladies) Your table is ready. Bruce: Your name? Bruce: Yeah, Seinfeld 4! Bruce: Relationships are difficult. It's very hard to stay together- Bruce: Oh. In about five, ten minutes. Bruce (holding a phone): Cartwright? Bruce: Cartwright? Bruce: Yeah, I just got a call. I yell 'Cartwright! Cartwright!', just like that. Nobody came up, I hang up. Bruce: Yes, yes, that's it. Nobody answered. Bruce: Yeah, yeah. I tell her you not here, she said curse word, I hang up. Bruce: Seinfeld, 4? |

I think there is a reason why these serial repeat stations tend not to show many season 3 shows, and I can see how they contributed to the demise of the show. Some of them were pretty awful!
