There's reason for that: your medal count. Truly the USA is having an awful Olympics.

Kind of looks like we went back 20 years

2018 United States (USA) 5 gold 3 silver 4 bronze
2014 United States (USA) 9 gold 7 silver 12 bronze
1998 United States (USA) 6 gold 3 silver 4 bronze

Thank God for snowboardin (4 of 5 gold)
Gold Redmond Gerard Snowboarding Men's slopestyle February 11
Gold Jamie Anderson Snowboarding Women's slopestyle February 12
Gold Chloe Kim Snowboarding Women's halfpipe February 13
Gold Shaun White Snowboarding Men's halfpipe February 14

There is snow in Hungary, no?

If so, why no women half pipe skiers?

Canadian women curlers don't make the finals, the first Olympics where Canadians curlers didn't win a medal. Men might not make it either.
US Hockey men doesn't make it to the semi-finals; Canada squeezes by Finland to make it through. Woman's gold tonight.
Vonn breaks down on camera last night, laments only getting bronze.
US ladies figure skaters do nothing; Russia likely to finish 1-2 unless Canada can break up the party.

But the US got a cross-country medal, which is amazing.

Snow in a country does not guarantee a country's entry. Training facilities and financing have to be available.

Lots of articles saying these are worst,
most untalented 'athletes' the US has
ever sent to any Olympics.

The US has always been terrible at the Winter Olympics
Growing up watching, many winter Olympics, we only won a few medals and really only competed in a few sports
Not doing so well these Olympics but we are at least competing in just about every sport

That's pretty damned cynical and cruel. Your usual curmudgeonly alt-news sources?

Our athletes beat thousands of other Americans each in the winnowing to making the team. They're almost all amateurs who have to beg for funding, against pros and gov't team financing from other countries.

More importantly, how many schools have been forced to cut PE for lack of funding over the last 2 generations? Try nearly all of them. Our kids are not paricipating and getting experience, or learning what they love or are good at, unless their parents can afford club sports.

So no surprise, when parsimonious agendas and foolish cuts affect investing in developing natural talent, we lose our national bragging rights.

There are still more than a few individual stories of American triumph and glory. We're 5th or so in medal count; that means there are 86 or so behind us. Pretty good standing, right in line with our national population rank.

Don't you always whine about wasting money on domestic issues? You don't get to have it both ways. We're no longer on course to be first in space, either, and we had that sewed up for decades but walked away when it got too hard.

I would aay, as a nation, we have earned our descent, and if people don't like it, they have a great historical example of how to fix it.
Never doubt a small group of concerned citizens can change the world; it's the only thing ever has

I remember when Bill Koch won the silver medal in the 30 km event at the 1976 Winter Olympics
That was also amazing
USA won 3 golds and 10 medals overall at those Olympics

You're making my point for me! If these
are the best, how pitiful were those they
beat? I mean, c'mon..
