1 day ago - (CNN)Gay US Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon turned down a meeting with Vice President Mike Pence I'm sure this is fake news, there are no Gay male figure skaters. How silly.. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

What do you expect, when he idolizes a sorry excuse for a human being whose only contribution will take place after he dies and his constituent elements serve as manure for weeds. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

terapined Member since: Aug 6, 2014 Threads: 73 Posts: 11791 | Foxnews executive vice president John Moody wrote an op-ed in which he criticized the U.S. Olympic team and their diversity “Unless it’s changed overnight, the motto of the Olympics, since 1894, has been ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger.’ It appears the U.S. Olympic Committee would like to change that to ‘Darker, Gayer, Different.’ If your goal is to win medals, that won’t work," WTF Yea we have athletes of color on the team Yea we have gays on the team Yea some athletes are in their 30's Every single one earned their spot on the team That's the way it works. You earn your way onto the team. It's frequently capitalized when you want to make it clear you are referring to a homosexual, and not someone who is 'lighthearted and carefree', the other definition of gay. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I did not know this. I haven't heard the latter definition since the early 1960's. Okay, to be fair, I wasn't born then, but I'm going off of TV shows like I Love Lucy, which did use the latter usage. I can't remember ever hearing it on color TV. Not that one source confirms or denies your stance, but I checked just one, the Log Cabin Republicans, and they use the lower case:

This writer prefers the capital G, but he implies that the idea is not universally accepted. http://bilerico.lgbtqnation.com/2014/01/making_the_case_for_the_uppercase_gay.php He also likes "the Gay population" instead of "the Gay community" because he believes a community is too easily dismissed. The association with (male) homosexuality likely got a boost from the term "gay cat", used as far back as 1893 in American English for "young hobo," one who is new on the road, also one who sometimes does jobs. Since some of these hobos were also homosexual. But the word didn't appear in psychological writings until the late 1940s, evidently picked up from gay slang. The "Dictionary of American Slang" reports that "gay" was used by homosexuals, among themselves, in this sense at least since 1920. |
